MMR for me, breastfeeding a baby

I have a 10 month, still 100% breastfed, I had to get an MMR as a condition of employment, even with my repeated refusals and concerns. I did a titer test and was positive for rubella, but negative for measles/mumps, so I had to be revaccinated.

I am hoping to get out of the 2nd required vaccination and looking for any medical studies showing potential adverse affects on children of BF'ing moms receiving the MMR. (I probably didn't fight hard enough to get out of the 1st... or should I just deal with it cause the damage is done????)

do any of you have link or references to studies that show long term affects on babies of BFing moms receiving MMR injection while nursing?

I have a couple of resources, but don't feel like they'd (a hospital) would view it as solid enough evidence to not end my contract with them for refusing the vaccination.

thanks.

Hmmm Have you read the CDC Pink book?

In reading the Pink Book about Rubella I find this
Quote:
Vaccine virus is not communicable except in the setting of breastfeeding (see Contraindications, below), even though virus may be cultured from the nasopharynx of vaccinees.
Later on they then state this
Quote:
Although vaccine virus may be isolated from the pharynx, vaccinees do not transmit rubella to others, except occasionally
in the case of the vaccinated breastfeeding woman. In this situation, the infant may be infected, presumably through breast milk, and may develop a mild rash illness, but serious effects have not been reported. Infants infected through breastfeeding have been shown to respond normally to rubella vaccination at 12–15 months of age. Breastfeeding is not a contraindication to rubella vaccination and does not alter rubella vaccination recommendations.
Thats reason enough for me though it makes me  they state "Breastfeeding is not a contraindication to rubella vaccination and does not alter rubella vaccination recommendations."

Can you not get a religious exemption or something like that?

I would think that the information above is quite good... I would make them sign something that makes them liable for anything since they are forcing it. I would better bet from there, they will not sign, and let it go. Let them know you are being cohersed in the statement as well. With the above CDC pinkbook statements... completely worth a try.

Anyone know if there is a law that protects from issues like this...?

Hope all works out for you.

This. Unless you work for a religious organization who can discriminate on religion for employment, you can use a religious objection.

You don't have to belong to a religious group to be oppossed for religious reasons? Really... you should surf around Mothering on religious exemption issues. What religous group you belong to doesn't even need to be said or disclosed due to privacy.

I was just saying that there ARE groups that CAN deny employment to people based on religion... (for example if you work for a church)

You're absolutely right that you don't need to belong to a religious group to use an exemption

Bingo. It's a private Catholic Hospital. I tried that. I faked a pregnancy (cause they wouldn't give it to me if I was pregnant)... I was able to put off the vaccination for sometime.

Bummer.... Is it in the paperwork that you must be Catholic to be employed by them?

good luck!

If they are Catholic you'd think they wouldn't require a few vaccines due to the abortion issue.
