Top three books

Thread Starter
I want to get a few books but I have very little free time to read. I just want to get the important ones.
DS is totally defiant. I am having a really really hard time with him. Playful Parenting sounds really interesting to me.

I would suggest Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn. It totally opened up my eyes to view kids in a different light. For example, I might have used the word defiant prior to reading it, but I no longer see my kids as defiant (most of the time ). The book doesn't really help with ideas on what to do instead, but was a great way to help look at my parenting philosophy and where I might change that. It challenged me.

I found Naomi Aldort's Raising our Children, Raising Ourselves as a good one for offering ideas on what to do and say.

I think my top three books have changed depending on my kids' ages.

But for me, right now, top three would be:

"Playful Parenting" by Lawrence Cohen
"No Cry Discipline Solution" by Elizabeth Pantley (or her other book "Kid Cooperation")
"Adventures in Gentle Discipline" by Hilary Flowers

#4 would be "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen..."

I also highly recommend Momfulness: Mothering With Mindfulness, Compassion, and Grace for you!

Playful Parenting
Kids, Parents & Power Struggles
How to Talk So Your Children Will Listen

I really like Unconditional Parenting, but it's not on my top 3 because it's more of a philosophy book, and less of a 'how to' book. (FWIW, I didn't care for Naomi Aldort's book -- her tone/style rub me the wrong way.)
