what are your all time favourite kids books?

i'm taking the plunge tomorrow and placing an order for kids books (we love books around here). i have a very good list going but i know there are other books out there that are wonderful and can be added to the collection...

so... tell me!!! what are your favourite kids books??? what books have thier bind about to practically fall apart and you're sick of hearing yourself read??

so far on my list is:

Favourite nursery rhymes from mother goose (scott gustafon edition)
Why Christmas trees aren’t perfect
A wish to be a Christmas tree
Merry Christmas: Big hungry bear!
Weaving the rainbow
Rosie’s walk
The cat in the hat
Little yellow pear tomatoes
The napping house with musical CD
The strawberry, the little mouse and big hungry bear
Anne Geddes "colours" book
Summer - Gerda Muller
Autumn - Gerda Muller

Our fall apart books have changed as the boys have gotten older. We've been through so many well loved books.

I've found that collections of stories have been loved well here. So realizing I was already forgetting which books they enjoyed as babies I made an amazon list of our favorite "collection of stories" type books a while ago. Many of these are in the falling apart category here and they have all spanned a long age range--from say 2 to now (my boys are nearly 5).

One thing I suggest is checking out a lot of books at the library. When you find one that they love and keep re-reading and re-checking out get it!

I too love The Velveteen Rabbit. I have to add to the list the following:
Where the Wild Things Are (of course)
Shaker Lane (absolutely wonderful book)
Rainbow Fish (DD1 loves this one)

Lately my four year old has also been getting into chapter books, and the Magic Tree House Books have been a hit. She also likes Winnie the Pooh. We started Little House in the Big Woods, but she never asked for the second chapter. :

these are soooooo cool, i want to get some!! which series are your fav? obviously the summertime one since you linked to it, but are there any others you like in particular?

click clack moo also looks good! hehe, my 2yo would love that one. i read a couple parts to her and she was smiling from ear to ear.
