Why are circs so hard?

I just can't get the hang of circs to save my life. This is the first hat I've knitted in the round ever and it's killing me. It's supposed to be in stockinette stitch but dangit, it just looks like I'm purling the whole thing. Waaah, I'm so confused!!

It looks so cute! Mine looks like a ball of yarn puked.

I made this hat. It sounds like you've got your project turned around. This used to happen to me when I first started knitting in the round. Not really sure how I did it, but the purl bumps ended up on the outside of my work rather than on the inside. I was just working in the wrong direction. The working yarn should be on your right hand needle. HTH!

yeah, it sounds like you are knitting it backwards, or it got flippped and you are knitting inside out. Both of which I have done.

When I first started using circs, anytime I was putting them down for a second, I would write notes about where I was and what needle went in which hand and I'd stick them on the needles. It helped.

I had such a hard time with it I decided to just knit it flat. I was just so confused with it and really didn't want to wrestle with the circs anymore. I think it will be easier if I try it with a project that fits the needles, rather than having to pull out a loop of cable all the time. Argh!!

Keep trying, you'll get it. I now LOVE circs and use them to knit flat instead of using straight needles.

They're really only awkward for the first several rows. It gets easier.

So I knitted it flat and it turned out to be a preemie size, even though I cast on enough stitches for the toddler size. I'm pretty bummed. The one that I have cast on my circs (still) fits my son though, so I guess I just should have added more stitches on my flat needles. I think I am going to take a break from this pattern and if I do knit it I'll try it on DPNs, since the circs loop is too long.

I still want to master circs.. someday... this was just not the project for it
