Humorous books for 6-year-old boy

I am trying to find more chapter books for my son to read at night. He is 6 (as the post title says) but read at around a fifth grade level. He has Asperger's Syndrome and will use books/movies/tv shows as part of his conversation, so we need to avoid overuse of mean words (i.e. stupid head, fart face, etc) or he will say them at inopportune times.

As an example, he enjoyed Dav Pilkey's Ricky Ricotta series. We avoid Captain Underpants because of the language.

Any ideas?

My DS is almost 8 and also has Asperger's.

They're on the "easy" side for him but he really enjoys the Amelia Bedelia books. (I've also found these have helped him understand wordplay a bit more. He tends towards really obvious broad humor -- think Three Stooges -- and Amelia Bedelia has helped him get the concept of thing having more than one meaning.)

He also likes Jack Prelutsky's poetry a lot.

The Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books are pretty clever. Ugh. I was thinking of another one, and it escaped my brain. I hate that.

My dd1 is 6.5 and, while she does not have Asperger's, she shares a lot of traits. She's also an advanced reader.

On the easier end, she finds Geronimo Stilton books quick and funny reads. She also loves the Bunnicula books, which are very clever and amusing. The Phantom Tollbooth is another perennial favorite. She adores Calvin and Hobbes, but you may want to pre-read because some of the language is not what you want repeated at inopportune moments. Oh, and anything by Roald Dahl. The BFG is a particular favorite of hers.

Has he tried the Series of Unfortunate Events books yet? The humor may be a little dark, but they were a hit around here.

Thank you! Raold Dahl books were going to be my other suggestion!

Bunnicula is charming and definitely a good choice!

I think the Great Brain books might be good for him too. My daughter thinks the Time Warp Trio are hilarious, but there is some mild insulting among the boys. I don't think they call each other names, per se, though. Also, maybe Sideways Stories from Wayside School.

How about Daniel Pinkwater? Maybe the Werewolf Club series.

What about Beverley Cleary?

They're older and uber-wholesome, but can be very funny - my daughter enjoyed has enjoyed Henry Huggins, Henry and Ribsy, Ramona and Beezus, and a couple of the Ralph the mouse books so far.

I read Judy Blume's Tales of Fourth Grade Nothing with my fourth graders, and they loved it, every single one of them! and asked for more stories about Fudge and his brother.
