spinoff-ish: lexapro while TTC/pg? or wean off it?

I was just lurking on the thread about lexapro while BF, and was wondering about lexapro while TTC and during pregnancy? It is becoming clear that I am a much much MUCH better mommy when taking my lexapro... My dr told me to wean off of it when dh and I were ready to TTC, that it would be better to be drug-free if pregnant... She didn't feel comfy with a drug in that 'unknown" class (cant remember offhand what they call it? not really researched on effects during pg?) being in the system while pg... which I totally understand...

any alternate opinions on this?

(meanwhile I am battling the weird electric zap feelings after two days with no lexapro at all...)

Hi there. I'm in the same boat. I'm on Lexapro and TTC. I'd rather not take it pregnant, so I'm worried. I actually went off it completely for a week (non-ttc related) and it was AWFUL. Dizzy, sick, crazy sad thoughts. Right now I'm in love with Lexapro , I don't know what to do either.

Oh and my OB told me that that I could continue to take Lexapro pregnant. I just would rather not. Your doc said no? Hmm.

both my ob and psych said i could take lex while preg. i opted not to, but they assured me it was okay.

i'm pretty sure i will go back on it now that ds is 3 months old. i think i'll be a better, more relaxed mom and partner to my DH who is so patient with me.

It's totally fine. Ssri's are safe in pregnancy. Zoloft is the safest. If you would like to, ask her about going on zoloft. I took it throughout pregnancy with no troubles.

I took Lexapro through my entire pregnancy and everything was fine. I continue to take it while breastfeeding.

My Dr. said that it was safe and there was no need to wean off of it in the third trimester (this was the old protocol). I would suggest finding a Dr. that specializes in mental health and pregnancy. They will have the most up to date information on different types of medications and the newest studies.

Sorry, I don't agree that ssri's are safe during pregnancy. I am convinced that it caused a heart defect to dd. don't want to be a downer!

Two new studies came out last year that proved no higher chance of heart defect with ssri than without. That said, some like zoloft appear to be safer while Paxil is one that is not highly recommended.
