Starting pumping at 2 years?

My DS is 26 months and usually nurses 4-8 times a day, although he only nurses on the left side. I have just started pumping for someone else. In 24 hours so far I only got about 20ml from the left side. Could anyone tell me if I have any chance of being able to pump much more than that? Is pumping something that can improve drastically with practice? Or am I unlikely to get much more as I am nursing a 2 year old rather than an newborn or infant? I would appreciate anyone's thoughts or experience of this as the person I am trying to pump for really needs the milk and I would like to maximize my chances of successfully pumping for her.

Thank you

Hmmm, I'm not totally sure - how long are you pumping? You might need to do stuff in the beginning to get more of a supply going like tea, power pumping both sides etc. Even though you're still nursing a lot of it might not be quantity but just quality if that makes sense.
My LC told me that in order to build supplies you need to be pumping/nursing at least once a day so on that note you should be able to build up. You just need to make your body think you need more milk. If you can maybe take a weekend and power pump, doing that to both breasts would probaly give the most results, you could alternate every other pumping on the side you are nursing though so as not to disrupt your LO's nursing that much.

Thank you for your reply. I have started taking tea and fenugreek. I didn't know what power pumping was so thanks for suggesting that as I've found some information about how to do that now. You mentioned that my LO may be nursing for quality not quantity now. Do you know (or does anyone know?) if a smaller quantity of milk from a nursing mother of a older child is equivalent to a larger quantity from a nursing mother of a newborn. Is the milk produced for an older child more concentrated in some way as they are nursing less often? I don't know if I have explained my question well but I hope it makes sense. I will be very happy to hear anyone's thoughts on this and also for any more tips on successfully pumping for a beginner with a 2 year old.
