I haven't trusted him since he made me watch Napoleon Dynamite...

it's fun if you talk like gollum throughout the movie.

The LOTR movie cracks me up. Everything is a Really Big Deal.

Love your sig Delicious.

The books are better, but the movies aren't bad.

I liked the movies, but then, it's the only time I ever get to hear my name on screen. Plus, my dad is Gandalf (or wishes he were). Plus, dude, Viggo Mortenson and Liv Tyler! Eyecandy galore!!

And the cinematography/backgrounds are amazing.

Ooo, and I haven't let DP pick a movie since verrry early on, when he took us to American Werewolf in Paris.

I never would have watched this movie on my own, but my son (now 14, 11 or so at the time) wanted me to watch it. I am very easily freaked out by violence, but it was very watchable other than that.

They are awesome! Relax and enjoy!
ETA: Full disclaimer;
I was a little hesitant about watching it, but I actually thought Napoleon dynamite was okay.

the best is to watch all of them in a row on a really snowy day.

Don't worry.

I hated Napoleon Dynamite. Thought it was just awful and actually ended up falling asleep.

I LOVE LOTR. It has great story-telling and amazing scenery. Some of the battle scenes are a little long, but really, they are very well done. IMHO the movies are much better than the books. The books are more an experiment in language, the movies distill the story down to its core.

I loved Napoleon Dynamite. It was so funny because the kids on there were so much like kids I went to school with. Most people in my age group liked the movie too...if you didn't see that go on in highschool though I can see where you might not like it.
The LoTR movies are good, really beautiful.

Oh no to worry- the LoTR movies are great! although as PP said-the books are much better.

But I loved Napolean Dynamite, too. So maybe my opinion isn't the best....

hmmm..

But I have the say the LoTR have that classic Good vs Evil plot line among other things and the movies did bring the world of Middle Earth to life in such a beautiful & scary way-visually-you just get swept up in the story. (I wish my name were Arwyn, its such a beautiful name, but that's probably just part of my yearning to be taller & prettier-my secretly wanting to be an elf in the LoTR....)

ok back to real life now....

Yep. I'm really glad I read the books first though.

I thought Napoleon Dynamite was asinine the first time I saw it. I think it's mildly humorous now.

Eh. We watched Fellowship and Two Towers all in one day once. I felt kind of ill and tired afterwards. And I luuuuhv the movies. They ARE our go-to movie choice when we have a rare Sunday afternoon with nothing to do.

Frontierpsych, have a good time! Ignore the hype, and just enjoy it for what it is, a good story well told.

I would sooner shoot myself in the foot for the extended trip to the ER to avoid that.

I. Hate. Those. Movies. I have tried, really, everyone seems to think they are such a big deal but they are neverfreakinending! And not much really happens and I keep thinking really? This is it? Adults like this? Kids are willing to sit through this? I just can't get my head around it.

If you really can't avoid them, be sure you have som eknitting or a big pile of thank you notes or perhaps a home electrolysis kit - something else to do at the same time.

At the very least, they're quite pretty. I'll admit I was watching the sets and costumes more than the actors for many scenes.
