Help! DH is going to make me watch LoTR! - Page 3

I'm studying anatomy right now in school and the Islets of Langerhans always make me think of LOTR every time they're mentioned. They sound like a mystical place.

Loved LoTR, but then I'm a sci-fi fantasy fan. Read the books, loved the movies.

Napolean Dynamite...
Male blood elves do the Napolean Dynamite dance. Its sexy

You have no idea what blood elves are unless you actually play World of Warcraft... sorry

We don't play WoW anymore. Too addicting.

Maybe if we don't hear back from the OP soon someone should PM her or e-mail her. Inquiring minds want to know!

I want to walk out of the room every time Arwen shows up. Most of what was done with her character makes me want to tear out my own eyes and ears...and it really bugs me that the script writers chose to put her pointlessly into the role of the near-warrior rescuer in Fellowship, when they knew they were going to have her spend most of the remainder of the two movies posturing and languishing. Ugh.

There are a few things that really get to me aside from Arwen (elves at Helms Deep??), but I mostly love the movies. When I watch them these days, I skim over some stuff, but I did watch all through them a few times. I never watch the scenes with Shelob, though - way too arachnophobic for that.

But they didn't know that -- they at one point were seriously considering making her in to a warrior babe type throughout, and originally did the first movie even more Xenaesque.

And with all movie/book thangs, y'really gotta take up separately, or it'll drive you insane.

I did keep thinking while watching them (especially the third) "why on Middle Earth did my parents name me after her, and not Eowyn?" OK, not as cool a name, but way cooler character!

I wish Tolkein had switched the elf and the human princesses' names. I'd be much prouder of my namesake, and wouldn't have to boycott naming any kids of mine Aragorn due to incestuous ickiness.

Arwyn is right on this one- they had planned for her to be at Helm's Deep actually (:Puke)
From wikipedia...

In earlier copies of the script (when the movies were supposed to be filmed in two parts under another production company), Arwen fought in the Battle of Helm's Deep and brought the sword AndĂşril to Aragorn. However, both Liv Tyler and the writers felt that the character's involvement in Helm's Deep was inappropriate, and left her out of the sequence.
I seem to remember reading somewhere though that Liv Tyler had a total freak-out moment on a horse in a battle scene at Helm's Deep and that is what made them question her involvement. Not too sure though.

Oh my gosh YES!!! : I went with my two best friends to see TT and the one very loudly exclaimed "what the f&*%??!!" When the elves showed up

I also had issues with there being several brunette elves.

DH was livid about Saruman's death and them totally cutting out the Scoring of the Shire.

My favorite love story is that of Eowyn and Faramir but nooooo they just couldn't add that And oh my gosh the whole making Faramir into a mini-Boromir at first???!!!

K, the more I sit here the more I am thinking of.

eh, okay, I watched the first 45 minutes or so of the first one and ended up falling asleep. I took a decent nap, and the friggin movie still wasn't over! I didn't finish watching it because I had no clue what was going on. The scenery is really nice and all, it just didn't catch my attention I suppose.

Oh well, maybe another time...

I like how RotK seems to be ending several times, up until the goodbye at the ship. Oh my word, that was painful to watch. EXTREME CLOSE UP OF ELIJAH WOODS CHERUBIC FACE! Cut to the guys doing a poor job of crying! Ugh.

Even if you don't love the story, the scenery and Aragorn make it all worthwhile. Mmmmm Aragorn. And since you're not already a LOTR fan, it might be even better for you, since you won't contantly be yelling at the screen, THAT'S NOT HOW IT WAS IN THE BOOK! STOP SCREWING UP THE STORY!!... as I am known to do. (Especially whenever Faramir is on.)

The Dude is a HUGE Tolkein fan... we've got like... 6 copies of the books around here. In fact, he reads to us at night (yeah, aww)... and read the trilogy to us. I love the movies. If I take them independently from the books, it's better. The cinematography and music is just gorgeous.

But... different strokes for different folks, I guess. I also like fried okra and World of Warcraft. *shrugs*

I had no idea. I still wish they'd changed the role in Fellowship when they decided what she was going to be doing (if that's the right word) for the rest of the trilogy.

DH and I came very close to doing the same thing...

Yeah...I think they must have decided that the Scouring wasn't central to the story or something. In some ways, it wasn't, but I do think it was a major part of what Tolkien was saying...and it was a huge part of the character development of the Hobbits.

I was appalled at the handling of Faramir, all around. It's somewhat better in the extended versions, but when we saw TT in the theater, I left feeling really let down. Most of it was about Faramir (although the elves at Helms Deep and long drawn-out, pointless scene with Aragorn in the water and Arwen speaking to him bugged me immensely, as well). The whole scene in Osgiliath was random, pointless and highly unbelievable (the Nasgul was that close to Frodo and the Ring - mounted on his "dragon" - and just went away??). It still makes me mad! They did pull out Faramir's character a lot in the extended edition, though. The background made him much less...jerky. I don't know why they handled him like that, though, especialy after donig such a beautiful job with Boromir in Fellowship.
