This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

My oldest (she's nearly 13 now) started to dislike school at the end of 3rd grade. We suspect she's very mildly Aspbergs. She also has OCD and is quite rigid.
She started disliking it because she discovered they wanted her inside the box. She didn't want to be inside the box in many instances and she rubbed the teachers the wrong way.
One example- write a fictional story (with a preset plot) well she didn't want to write a pre-semi-written story so she'd write a new one. That didn't go over well and she could not for the life of her understand nor get why. She has her own internal values and rules.
The PE teacher tried to force her to stay after PE time so she could finish the "mandatory" mile they have to run each year for a test. She was late to orchestra and told the PE teacher "No." She's really mild mannered and extremely quiet so that was just odd to me. She came home in tears about it, which for her is super odd. She's very stoic and appears unemotional most of the time- well unless she's irritated.
Anyway long story short- though she had all these issues and I pulled her for 4th and homeschooled her within several weeks she wanted to go back to school. She loves her friends and being a part of the social scene even though she's not social to the naked eye. She likes being involved in stuff.
She's in 7th grade now in honors classes and she goes about her business and loves it. She's the type of kid that very much needs people around her that allow her to "be" without bugging her. I guess she found a way to work within the system that doesn't compromise her own sense of being.
I'm very aware that this could change though.
