5yr. just came home with a black eye!

He got hit by a kid on a swing at recess I guess. What gets me is that according to him they sent him in to another teacher, but never offered him an ice pack! It purple and swollen now I just can't wait to see what it looks like tomorrow. No note from the teacher as to what happened either. I'm not sure if that's normal or not. I can see not sending a note for a scraped knee, but a black eye!

wow. i think i'd be accompanying him to school tomorrow to find out why. at the very least he should have been given an ice pack. does the school not have a school nurse? i'd be very upset. so sorry! hope he feels better soon!

Some places do not put ice packs on head injuries.

Did your son say whether he was on the swing or whether he was walking by the swing? You'd be surprised how many kids play really close to the swings(or between them)

DS's school called me b/c they thought he might have bumped his head lightly when he fell one time. When I picked him up he didn't have a mark on him.

For a blackeye on a 5 yo, I would expect a call, the option to pick him up right away, and immediate attention from a school nurse or who ever was in charge of firstaid.

The school should have sent home a note explaining what happened so that you could go to the doctor/ER with an explanation so that you could seek treatment.

The problem is that most ERs will suspect YOU, the parent of doing this, so you need their explanation so that the hcp can proceed with treatment.
