Still having pelvic pain 5 months later. . .

This happen to other folks? I have significant pelvic pain - pubis symphosis I suppose. . . If I ever lay down on my back or side the pain is intolerable. When I walk, sometimes I take a misstep or something and the pain just grates. . .

When will this go away?

I had a real long (as in 9+ hours) pushing phase and ended up with another c/s anyways. . .

Is that the probable cause?

I went through that during and after my first pregnancy. It was horrible, the pain was unbelievable. It took me awhile to figure out what to do the Ob/Gyns that I was consulting were useless. Finally what helped me was a combination of a lot of things I guess. But mainly seeing a doctor in Chinese medicine who would do manipulations on my pelvis and lower back, make me special teas (that tasted horrible), acupuncture and my favorite: used a laser on mu pubic symphisis which felt great. I also started wearing a pelvic belt which helped me a lot. Unfortunately, it took me a long time to find this doctor, I was 7 months postpartum and very miserable. I also discovered that if I do certain things that would guarantee me increase of the pain: like carrying my daughter, sitting for long periods of time etc. Supplementing was also essential for me fish oil or even better krill oil was very helpful. But what really resolved it for me I had a prolotherapy injections on my pubic symphisis done (I also had them on my lower back and neck- for the migraines). It is very painful but so worth it, it healed me. I actually had a very intense and rapid labor (10 min pushing stage). Not to scare you, but in my case unfortunately it took a long, long time to recover about 2 years postpartum. Of course everybody is different and I had a lot of doctors telling me that I had a very bad case and that it is very rare. But what I really regret is that I started "the real" care almost 7 months postpartum. I'm now 12 weeks pregnant with my second and really scared not to go through the same postpartum hell. But I know now so much more than the first time around and I'm determent not to let things get so out of hand this time with my pelvis.
Take care of yourself mama and I apologize for the long post. I really hope that you will have much easer than me recovery and if you need more info of my experience etc. email me.

thank you for replying.

i've left messages over the last couple of months on my midwife's voicemail but she has not called me back. guess she's busy with births.

it is good to know i'm not the only one who has dealt with this.

and yep, you're right, it is worse when carrying a child around, but i have no other option. my baby likes to be held and i have 2 other children. so, she's in a wrap a good portion of the time.

sigh

i'll just accept this as my future and will move on. i can handle it and try to block it out. i'll keep hopng the midwife calls me back sometime in the next year though. . .

I had awful awful Pubic symphosis dysfunction while pregant with my DD. It took about 9 months to go away. What helped me was lots and lots of chiropractic care.

I hear you. my daughter loved to be carried all the time as well. I would suggest you though if you could at least wear a pelvic belt to support your pelvis. Also if you can try special exercises, hydrotherapy, physical therapy, manipulation or chiropractic care it could help. I know those work well for some women. Hope you are feeling better soon.
