...and I don't know howl. .. hehehehe

Can someone point me to a beginner's book, website, or pattern for these lovely cowl scarves that I am coveting at the moment?

This one is very pretty and not too dificult if you can read a pattern.

This one looks simpler but you have to pay for the pattern

Isn't a cowl basically a scarf worked in a circle? Make yourself a nice long chain, join it into a circle, drape it around your neck to see if it's about the size you want...adjust as necessary & go from there. You can make a very simple version with just DCs or TRs. Or if you want to get a little fancier but still not difficult, make sure your chain is an even number, then DC twice in one stitch, skip the next st all the way around (you'll skip the last stitch, but that's OK). The only tricky part is making sure you don't twist your beginning chain, and hey if you do that, call it a Möbius wrap. Just about any stitch pattern you are used to working flat can be worked in the round with only a change or two; the possibilities are quite literally endless, and if you take good notes you might find you've written your first pattern.
