Talk to me about 100 Pure Wool...

What's great about it?

What do you wish you'd known before using it?

Which types of projects does it work best for?

How does the 3-ply work for soakers (specifically, what gauge do you knit it in for soakers, is the care different than for other yarns, and how well do the soakers hold up)? (I know it's been suggested for pre-crawlers rather than the mobile ones, so I'm guessing the pilling/wear is a factor here...)

Anything else I should know?

TIA!

I have only used their single ply. Its very soft. Prone to felting and will pill a lot. I definitely can't use single ply for my toddler and haven't since she became mobile. The colors can be nice, but be aware that sometimes things look far different from the photos.

I like it for the price.

I love 100purewool, but much prefer 3 ply over single ply. I find it sturdier.

I order from them via coops 3 or 4 times a year (okay sometime more). Although I like Rio De La Plata a bit better, more because I prefer kettle dyed, tone on tone color variations better. They are very similar as the yarn is from same region/source - Manos, Malabrigo and HPY are all also from same area (Uruguay).

I haven't tried the 3-ply, but have used the single. It is truly soft, buttery soft, but it does indeed pill and felt very easily. I made my dd a sweater with it, and it pilled like mad the first time she wore it. I did a cabled hat with the single, though, and it stayed pretty un-pilly, since it doesn't really have the opportunity to rub on anything. I would definitely use 3 ply for anything but a hat, or maybe a scarf. The colors are gorgeous, btw!

What's great about it:
Cashmere-like softness, beautiful colors, sheep raised in natural conditions, yarn is hand dyed using environmentally responsible methods, women's cooperative.

What I wish I'd known:
Colors can vary dramatically from what appears on the website, coops are definitely the way to go, and 3-ply is far preferable to 1-ply for garments.

I use it for:
felting, baby garments (I wouldn't make longies for crawlers or walkers out of 1-ply), scarves, sweaters, anything you want to be soft, and you can treat gently and hand wash.

So so soft, but the colors can be a bit odd.
I have two skiens of June worsted 3ply that I'm not so happy with, .

The 3-ply has stood up better to wear better than the single-ply. I have used both for my lo before he was mobile and after. 3-ply still pills some, but not nearly as much as the single-ply. Also, the single-ply felted easily in areas of the soaker with more movement. PW is soooo soft and I love it next to the skin. The pics on their website are quite different than what arrives.

yeah, that. I would also recommend ordering soli/semi solid colors. I bought skeins with multiple colors and on some of them I don't like how the colors go together (they look nothing like the pictures on the website photos that I thought were so beautiful . It was really weird, like some of the yarn was way lighter, some was darker, some seemed to be entirely different colors.

The yarn itself is very nice.
