Dish shattered in the over, glass EVERYWHERE.

I was just cooking banana bread in a glass loaf pan and it shattered in the oven! I have no clue why. It was just a 350 degree oven and had only been in there maybe 30 minutes. Any idea why??

Once the oven cools, I'll have the great task of cleaning all the glass out of it.

Did you put a cold pan into a hot oven? Was the batter cold? Were there scratches in the glass? Have you used this pan before?

It could be any number of reasons, but the most likely is shock (quick change from hot to cold or hot on one side of the glass, cold on the other), or the pan was damaged and the heat just exacerbated the problem.

If it was the first time you used it though, it could have been faulty (bubbles in the glass).

I'm finding this is happening a lot, lately.

I've used the pan once before, and it was from room temperature. I guess I'll contact the company.

Glass is a natural substance and as such has natural weakness as will stonewear. It's a hazard of use. Seems to becoming more common over the years, or it's just the increased communication of the internet that makes it seem more common.
