1st RE visit... what can i expect?

just wondering what we can expect?

my records/previous test results have been sent over to him, so he should be prepared.

i am trying to get a list of questions together, i don't want to waste one second of this appointment

i've had a few tests done already... including: hsg, endo biopsy, laproscopic surgery and a few random blood tests. everything normal.

ask me questions... get my brain moving!

First off, be prepared to be overwhelmed and teary. I cried at my first visit, well, actually every visit. It's was all so emotional for me, stress, fear, relief at times, it was all so much to take in.

I have been to 2 REs and they were very complete in their discussion. Your questions will come up naturally in conversation (at least they did for me). I would want a list of options, possible drugs, length of time for said options, how things work at their office, who to call with questions. You should meet the contact person because you will be talking with them frequently depending on what route you go. Also, find out about payment, when it's expected, if they have a multiple cycle plan (if you need IUI or IVF). I can't say enough how helpful my current clinic is with answering questions that come up, I can email the Dr., nurse or billing person.

I hope you have a great first visit filled with hope. Both of my consults were very lengthy and I never felt rushed, you shouldn't with the price they are charging.

I am having my first RE appointment too. I am wondering this:
In the next couple weeks we are having dh's semen analysis, plus a CD 3 blood test for me that will test 5 things
(and cost me 500 dollars).

So we will get the results back from that from what we have already paid.
I think the RE visit is close to 200 additional dollars- and I currently don't have insurance ( working on that).

IF I know I do not at this point want to do any kinds of hormones or IUI or IVF, is it a waste for me to see the RE?
Because of MDC and charting so many cycles- I may already know everything she could tell me. Should I save my money or can the whole thing be useful if we still want to just get pg at home?
BTW we have been ttc #1 for 13 months.

Yes, it's a waste. The RE ordered a ton of bloodwork, to check for a bunch of things (I think they drew about 8 vials of blood that day!) and it was valuable to have someone knowledgeable about what to order, but if you're getting the bloodwork without the RE and you decide based on the results that you are not interested in Clomid or IUI or anything, then there's nothing an RE can do to help you. If you need help interpreting the results or want someone to give you more options than what you can do at home, the RE is the way to go.
