Considering starting a small home business. Opinions?

I love to bake. My kids love to help me bake. It's one of our favorite things to do, and most everything we bake turns out really, really excellent. I'd definitely need some more practice before I started doing this, but I'm thinking of starting a (very small) home business taking orders for baked-from-scratch goods--cupcakes of all kinds, brownies, cookies, fudge, truffles, etc. I would especially love to get into doing gift baskets with a variety of these items. I thought about eventually selling my stuff to local gift shops, too. I live in a very small town, but there are several larger towns around me where I could advertise. We also have a TON of festivals, craft shows, and the like around here, at least two or three every month within 2 hours of me, and I thought it would be fun to set up a booth at these events. What do you think? Assuming my food is really good, do you think I'd get a decent amount of business? Any thoughts as to what steps I need to take to get this party started?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The first thing about food and making selling it legal in the long run is to make sure your kitchen meets the codes for the health department. I am not sure what's required and sometimes it's best to rent a kitchen already approved, like a church kitchen or somewhere else that's commercial to begin with.

Other than that, people love food. I sometimes think food places have an easier shot because people WILL try food, lol.
