What's your Ped's "pet" vaccine?

What's the ONE (or two, or three) vaccine that your ped "recommends" even if you've stated your concerns about vaccinating? The one that your kid just HAS to have, even if you refuse the others?

When we decided to stop vaxing, our ped agreed that Hep B and CP vaccines were unnecessary, and that I was perfectly within my rights to refuse anything that conflicted with my faith (vaccines cultured on aborted fetal cells); however, she insisted that DTaP and IPV were of the utmost importance and that's where the scare stories began!

What was YOUR doc stuck on?

none, so far

Back when DS was newborn and we were at his first ped practice, I did ask one of the docs about it and she mentioned 2. I'm sure one was Hib, I don't remember what the other one was.

HiB and Prevnar. But she's really respectful about it. She says every time that she feels the need to mention them respectfully bc she believes in them, and each time I tell her I need to respectfully decline them because I don't. LOL.

I use a naturapath, but she's all about the dtap. Her family got Pertussis once and she's kind of fearful of it. She did talk me into the one shot at my son's 9 mo appt.

For me, I am fine with the Polio vax, so my son has had one polio vax and one dtap shot. I don't do boosters.

our doc is anti-vax. *smile*

We live in a Pro Vax community. Our ped went crazy about the Dtap the main vaccine that almost killed my husband. As a result we don't see that doctor anymore.

Our dr is really respectful of our decision not to vax, but she has mentioned the polio and Dtap a couple times.

Luckily, she's never mentioned one at all. Hasn't even asked if we'd like to vax since his 2 month appt. a year ago.

ETA: Of course, whenever I call the office the phone is busy and I can't get an apptl without waiting a week... no such thing as a perfect doctor!

Prevnar.

We have a general family doc; he is very laid back and doesn't mind our selective schedule. When we do talk vaccines, he does talk a lot about meningitis the ways that prevnar and hib vaccines have changed medical schools back where he is from and how different 'programs' (I forget the word he actually used when talking about this) dedicated to learning about treatment of meningitis in children have had to be changed due to the eradication happening with these vaccines.

We don't do prevnar but we do do hib, so we do talk about it a bit. I don't know if I would call it his "pet" vaccine but, like I said, the convo has come up more than once when we do get into vaccine chats.

Hib is going to kill my baby.

*sigh*

First she recommended DPT, Hib and Prevnar. Now that they are older she keeps recommending MMR but separately.

The first pediatrician we went to (best we could find on short notice...) was all about HiB and one or two others -- basically the "they only get these in the first year, you should really vax for these now!!!" ones. She tried to say that since he would be getting his blood drawn so often (every 2-4 weeks the first year, due to congenital hypothyroidism), he should get (I think it was) HiB, because of dirty needles or something... I was sitting there thinking are you kidding me? if the hospital we take him to is using contaminated needles, we have way bigger problems to worry about...

His current doc, an ND, is more anti-vax than we are.

We are a vax family, but our ped is known for not pressuring people to vax. I found him from another AP mama who does not vax. (I like him because he only gives antibiotics and other meds if he feels they are necessary, and will often do the wait and see game.)

He believes in vaccinations personally, but he believes in the parents right to make an educated decision that is best for their family. When I wanted to delay vaccinations for my dd2 he agreed with me. I just took her in for flu mist and she's due for four different shots. He said they could wait, that it was too much to give her at once so she just got the flu mist that day. She has another 6 mos before she starts K and can get them between now and then.

So to answer your question, no vaccine is his pet vaccine that I am aware of.

Yeah my ped said that she recommends Mumps (for the risk of orchitis) for boys and Rubella (for pregnancy risks) for girls. I denied it of course!
