At 9 days overdue my OB and I agreed to an induction. I arrived already dilated to a 5 and 80% with baby at 0 station. My OB was supposed to do AROM but he was not available so the nurse did a light pit drip. That was about 3:00p.m. At 4:10 the doc broke my water and serious ctx started. At about 5:20 the nurse asks if I want an epi and I said yes. I asked the anesthesiologist for a very light epi because although I don't tolerate pain very well, I still wanted to feel what was going on. Boy did I get my wish. By the time they got it in I was a 9 and feeling the urge to push. So, the doc comes in and I push through about 4 ctx and I can feel his head being born. I can feel the doc maybe trying to turn the baby's shoulders then the nurse climbs up on the bed and is pushing her fists into my stomach. Then I hear my baby cry but he is super gurgley. The doc tells me that my baby had shoulder dystocia and was stuck for about 3 1/2 minutes and he inhaled some fluid. The nurses are working on him to get the fluid out then one of them tells me he has to go to the NICU.
He had to spend his first 4 hours there. At about 10:00 my friend brings him in ( she is a baby nurse) I am so happy. He nurses for 7 hours straight. He is perfectly healthy with no complications from his crazy (and quick, less than 3 hours) birth.
