Keyhole Scarf - getting yarn back down

Thread Starter
I'm knitting a keyhole scarf. I put half the stitches on a holder, knitted the other half up a few inches and now the pattern says ""rejoin yarn to the second group of stitches." But the second group is a few inches below the first. How do I rejoin?

Do I cut the yarn (and weave the end in) and then start over again at the second set of stitches?

Thanks! :

Your gut is right. Cut the yarn where you are now OR start the next piece with a new ball of yarn.
