Exxxxactly... Im hoping the time change will give me the oomph I need to get on that schedule. Unfortunately, Dh is working until 3am tonight ... Im debating how mean it would be to leave him with a gaggle of kids who wake at 6 (he can sleep in the afternoon right ... grr .... except he's studying for Boards in 2 wks. So this is how Im helping my husband prep for boards - 3 hours sleep and babysitting duty so I can exercise

oh, I should add;

rr: 17 minutes medium warm-up on stationary bike. 45 minute weight circuit. 10 more minutes on bike ...

and yesterday was a hard hour on the bike....

Moonshine, thanks for putting the thought in my head--I'm going to start c25K this week, too! And I want to get back to the gym so I can lift weights. All this nursing in sometimes awkward positions has really made my back and shoulders sore, so they could use some good strength training to help work out the kinks. I'm planning to leave a well-fed baby with DH on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings for an hour while I'm at the gym. I wish the gym were closer to our house, but nothing too bad could happen while I'm gone, right?

Mommabelle, I'm so sorry. You're having a really rough time right now. We so need an ATL Dingo night out, right girls?

So I ran 10 miles today. That is the good news. The bad news is that I did it with a tummy full of Halloween candy and a couple of Advil. STUPID. My digestive tract is so angry with me. : I am in a lot of pain still, 3 hours later. Lesson learned.

OK... y'all have inspired me... can I join and make it four of us on the same c25k schedule? Week 1 + consistent PT exercises for me. I really need all the accountability I can get.

eta: forgot to add, i had a running dream this morning where i was flying. I mean, it wasn't fast, but it was effortless. I could feel the cool air on my legs and my shorts fit so comfortably (a sign I guess that I am not feeling comfy in my clothes or in my body right now).

I'm *so* in for this (isn't week 1 3 days of working out?) cause then I can fit it in Thursday, Friday, Saturday right . That is to say I'm in for AFTER my exam.

Although sad, it's been nice to see everyone.

not much running to report, but have managed a mtn bike ride in PA. Hoping to get out today again before we drive back home. last night dh and I went to see the dave brubeck quartet and it was very cool. He's 88 years old, but definitely still has it.
for you. I'm glad your family all got to be together though. I saw DB about 20 years ago and I remember my dad telling me how lucky I was because he was getting so old and probably wouldn't be touring much longer.

Dude I'm with you! My two miles yesterday felt like the last half mile of my half back in 2006. I swear, every step hurt. Thank goodness I got to have a really good stretch afterward and today I feel fine. But sheesh!

that's a good idea. I hadn't thought about how strength training would help.

M'belle -

Chicago mamas - I'm scheduled to do a 4 miler on the 25th. We'll be coming up from St Louis at noon that day but I'm wondering if any of you might be up for a late afternoon run with me?
And mommajb I'll pm you too about Madison runs. I was hoping to do a Turkey Trot on thanksgiving but I guess it was actually yesterday? Do you know of any other ones?

Okay, I've now been crafting this masterpiece of a post for, oh, about 6 hours , it's not going to get any better than this!

So the nudge to update mileage...I have updated my sig in months! my mileage for this year?.........

1084.61!!!!!!!!!

(and that's probably a slight underestimate - I hadn't logged since the usaf 1/2...I had to use my garmin and I know I didn't take it on every run).

I did 5 today at 42:09...blazing for me. I have a secret goal (well secret to people who will be at the race), I want to break 40. It would be my first time as an adult to do so.

I think that this is precisely what I need. This will be great! I need to figure out what I do on the days off from running. I know I need to do some strength training and yoga would be good too. Maybe I can alternate.

Mandy, to you. Mbelle, you too.
OK, so Emma Kate is in swim lessons right now on Mondays and Thursdays at our gym. That's 2 of my 3 days (Kerc, I think c25k is 3 days a week for the entire program). Maybe I will make Saturday my other day.

Question for Gaye or Megs or anyone else... my PT consists of lots of quad and hamstring stretching, and then a couple of strengthening exercises. On a day when I'm doing other actual exercise like c25k, when should I do the PT in relation to the workout?

amazing :
very inspirational too. I'd love to run fast one day

Tomorrow is my Endo appt. I have copies of all of my bloodwork from the past 14 months, and all of the new Dr's paperwork filled out. I'm very excited. If he tests me for everything, adn tells me to just keep doing what I have been doing, I'll be okay with that. But I think then I will know that I tried everything. The new HR info that I got 2 weeks ago may be part of my problem too (working out not intensley enought and not eating enough some days).

Of course, part of me hopes that he bumps my thyroid meds up to an aggressive level, or finds some odd strain of PCOS that there is some miracle drug that helps to me to lose 2 lbs a week. And I really hope that I get some answers about my tiredness in the afternoons and my odd cycles and this crazy fat stomach of mine.

But if not, I'll just keep on. I lost 30 lbs this year, and I can keep doing this to lose another 30 next year. Slow, but in 2 years I would be at a healthy weight.. not skinny, but just borderline overweigth, fitting into a size 10/12.. which woudl be a good place for me.
Good luck at your appointment tomorrow, Gigi. I hope the endo can give you the answers you need .

BBM ~ you can totally break 40!!!! Run, Mama, run! And congrats on some amazing mileage this year.

Plady ~ The Thanksgiving Day run in Indy this year is called the Drumstick Dash. Try looking that up. Where are you going to be that week? I'm thinking of maybe doing the Dash myself, if I can talk DH into holding down the fort here that morning. We'll see....

Okay, I'm official for the Mini! I just registered, so add me for May 2, 2009, Indy Mini-Marathon . I elected not to seed myself, although I could have been in L2 based on this week's 1/2 time. Two of my friends really want me to train with them to finish in under 2 hours, so I think I'll run with them in the race rather than go for a PR. And I'm actually pondering doing the full marathon at the Monumental next November, with hopes of Boston qualifying. Gulp. In my AG it's 3:50. I "think" I can do that.......
Good luck to everyone starting up c25k. So cool that you're all starting at the same time.

We went to a 4 hr. long b-day party today where the kids pretty much ran and played the entire time. Between that and the time change, they were O-U-T.

Oh, and I forgot to mention when I de-lurked that our dog is nicknamed.....get this....DINGO! :

home now. feels good to be home and to know that I don't have to travel again until the end of January. I've had so much stress with this event that just finished, and I hope that now that it's over and there's not another stressful event until June that things will be better. when i rode my mtn bike on Friday I didn't have any heart problems. Not sure if it was because the terrain was much more forgiving than in VT or what. I have a new HRM watch so that I can see what happens when I run tomorrow.

Poppy - sorry to hear that it's getting to that point for your dh's grandma. A funny story that only you will really get. DH has no formal clothes and so borrowed Keller's suit so he would have a jacket to wear for the funeral. He's getting ready for the funeral and pulls out the pants he brought - only he grabbed the shorts not the pants. so he has to wear Keller's pants. My dh is 6'2" - Keller is about 5'10" - it was very funny.

i think i'm going to start up with facebook - do any of you have any tips for me?
eks~I'd probably do the exercises after your C25K workout. Use the run as a warm-up. They have me getting started on the bike or elliptical at PT for the same reason. See how it feels anyway, and if you don't like that, then try before to loosen up before you run.

gmm~ for your stress and the loss of your gf. You should totally get on Facebook, we have a dingo group, you know! My advice would mainly be to just check and double check your privacy settings when you're getting everything set up. The defaults aren't the highest level, especially on pictures. You can set them so everybody can see them, only friends, friends of friends, etc. I have mine set so only friends can see my stuff. Watch out, though, it's addictive!

gigi~Good luck tomorrow! I hope you get some answers!

Ay yi yi, today was a day. DS was so extremely TWO today, and not in the cute way. Throwing things, hitting, etc. I took him to the playground just to get out of the house, and after four timeouts that didn't seem to phase him in the least, I was about to lose it. He did get better after his nap, but holy smokes, he was driving me nuts. Other stuff...nothing exciting to report. Just kind of settling back in...
Gaye, my DD has been very 2 recently as well. Must be that their 1/2 birthday this month. The half-year can be rough. Plus I'm sure the changes in your house are throwing him a little too .

towsonmama and everyone else who is wondering how I'm getting faster ~ honestly, I'm not sure. My mileage leading up to the half-marathon was about 22/week. I do speedwork regularly, and tempo runs. I am sure losing the last 15 or so pounds made a big difference for me. I've described my progressive treadmill runs, and I'm almost certain those are a factor in getting faster overall and staying fast through the race. Other than that, I'm not sure !

I woke up this morning and wanted to go swimming. First time I've even thought about getting in the pool for weeks and weeks, so I think I'll head to the Y for a nice relaxing swim after I take DD to preschool this morning.

Yay to all the c25kers.

Gigi, I'm curious to hear if you get answers. I like your attitude on 1 vs 2 years to meet your goal. As always, I'm in awe of your dedication and progress.

Remember that Ty needs to adjust to the change as well. 2 year olds, well, sometimes they don't deal so well. I hope he adjusts to the new norm soon.

Ok, I gotta get to 3000 words today. That should actually be pretty easily done before noon.

I Will Go Running From Work. Before 1 pm. Hold me to it, please.

Know something that i really like about this group? The range of "ability"/level here. How cool that that there are people starting C25k this week, and people seeding for key races. Very cool

I somehow missed multi quotiong Mandy. I love facebook. It is addicting, but I have regained contact with so many blasts from teh past. just within the last week, I found a frined that i worked with 10 years ago, and that has snowballed into finding many other old co workers. These are all people that I worked with at Tommy Hilfiger for 9 years, and they all have very cool and fast paced lives in NYC, and there is probably no way in h3ll that I woudl have ever run into them again if it weren't for facebook. But I need to find teh Dingo group......

Gaye, give DS a break, this weekend had to be very stresful for him too. give him lots of hugs and reassure him that you will always be there for him.....

And Mandy... SPILL about the new HRM that you got. there are *some* of us here who are HRM geeks and have to know what you got :

Last week in my kickbox class, there was a girl with a polar on one wrist and a garmin on the other. I had to run after class and didn;t get to talk to her, but I was drooling over that set up too.....

Thanks for the well wishes for my Dr appt today. I'm leaving soon, and I am very excited about the next year and the athletic performance plans that I have for my body. I want to master Tris', run 5 and 10 k's with the goals of improving times each time, and I want to do a half (to get the 13.1 magnet)

TFR my ramblings today
