Spinoff: Coconut oil in the bedroom

Thread Starter
i'm curious about it since the thought of ky jelly and other commercial lubes terrify me. those with experience, will you please answer a couple of questions?

1) what kind do i buy? i know there are a variety of types. i'm not looking to spend a lot of money, and i don't plan on cooking with it.

2) how much do i use?

3) is it safe to add essential oils?

4) how messy is it?

5) does it have a strong coconut flavor/scent? (not that i would mind.)

if you don't feel comfortable posting your response, i'll gladly accept a pm.

tia!

I have the 100% organic coconut oil. However, I bought a huge container when I was in Thailand, of all places. So, I'm not really sure where you buy it anywhere else. I bought mine a few years ago, and still have a lot left.

A little goes a long way. Though, I suppose that depends on where you will be using it. A teaspoon or even less is good for normal activities. A tablespoon or more is better for ... anterior activities. I'm sorry, I'm trying to follow the rules, be subtle, and yet answer your questions! I apologize if it's TMI. I'm approximating amounts too ... I don't actually measure it out with my cooking spoons.

It is not condom compatible - don't know if that's an issue.

It stains - clothing, sheets, etc. This has never bothered me, but it might bother some.

I, personally, do not add essential oils, and I have never tasted it. So, I can't help you there. It doesn't have a strong scent, though.

As a bonus, it's a GREAT massage oil as well.

Ooooh, DH and I love us some coconut oil. Thanks to whomever mentioned it several months ago! Thanks from the bottom of DH's heart (or something...), too.

I went to the grocery store and looked in the organic section. There were two types (I'm not at home or I'd look to give you the exact details). One said that it had nearly no flavor, and the other one said that it had a coconut flavor--refined vs. unrefined, maybe? Anyway, we love coconut, so I bought the one with the flavor. I think the jar cost about nine bucks, but it will last quite awhile.

We didn't want the jar itself to get all icky, so we usually (if we're planning ahead and not being too spontaneous) scoop about two tablespoons of the oil (which is actually a soft solid at room temperature) into a bowl and dip our fingers into that. As I said, the whole jar of oil will last us awhile.

We've never added essential oils, because the oil is delicious and fragrant enough on its own. The stuff we got is strong smelling and definitely has a coconut taste. The other type I didn't buy might not be as strong.

It is messy. It starts off as a solid, as I said, but quickly turns liquid and slides all around. We now need a new slipcover for our couch, for lack of better planning. Our bed is not so much an issue, as we have a waterproof cover over our mattress and nobody but us sees our sheets.

Give it a try; coconut oil is super-fun!

I generally use the cheapest kind available if I'm not planning to cook with it. I wouldn't add essential oils when using in sensitive areas- coconut oil is pretty inert but EOs might cause irritation.

You can't use any oil with latex condoms, diaphram, or latex "toys" as oil will weaken the latex. Oil is safe to use with polyurithane condoms and silicone "toys". I'm not sure about its safety with lambskin condoms.

We use the Spectrem Brand pure unrefined virgin coconut oil from Whole Foods.

It tastes great. A little goes A LONG way.

Love and cook with reckless abandon!

I have also bought the spectrum unrefined CO, which is kind of expensive, but the pint jar has lasted us almost a year. I have heard from others, though, that you can buy big tubs of it at wal-mart for a few dollars. I think this kind is refined (so no coconut smell) and is either in the pharmacy section or the ethnic food section...I can't remember which.

We also love it and I have had luck getting it out of my sheets--no permanent stains.

The discussion boards at www.themarriagebed.com have a sticky in one of the sections (I think the "how to/is this okay/etc" section) on coconut oil. The folks over there are CRAZY about it.

You can get it refined from LouAnna in the regular baking section of WalMart, it has no smell and it tends to be "harder" at room temp.
I also have some unrefined Virgin coconut oil that I got from the pharmacy section of WalMart. It smells nice, is softer & lumpier at room temp (but still a solid).

DH doesn't like the smell of coconut so we use the refined kind for extraciricular activities. We don't use condoms and we don't worry about stains. I cook with both and havne't noticed any real taste from either of them. I personally can't smell or taste coconut very well, so I'm not the best person to ask about that.

because i use coconut oil as a supplement AND in the bedroom, i went to walmart and got a 4 oz travel size pump bottle (plastic #5) for less than a buck and i pour it full of oil and keep it in our nightstand drawer. its less messy than dipping fingers into a bowl cause you just pump it wherever its needed.havent had a yeast infection since using it either.:
