What kind of fabric is this, and how does she get the shape of a face in it?And is there a wood head in there?I am fascinated by her dolls!I'm sure I'll buy some. They are just magnificent!I am curious how she does it though....

Your post gave me a chuckle. No wood in there.

The fabric on the outside of the head is cotton interlock. It is pulled over an inner-head which is made from wool batting rolled into a hard ball, then a tube of stockinette or gauze pulled over it and tied off with string. Then string is used to wrap the ball and tied to shape it. The cotton interlock is pulled over this and embroidered with the simple facial details, or painted. The wool should be rolled very firmly as this is the sign of a quality, well made Waldorf doll.

Lot of dollmakers use this method, not just Kathe Kruse. :
