Actually, scratch that, I have found some cheap stuff, but it was more like one-offs. Stuff that they only have 1 or 2 of, they'll package up eg. a couple erasers, pack of crayons, some pieces of felt, odds and ends of feathers, wooden cut-outs etc. and sell the whole lot for $5 or so. Good deal for those of you who have crafty kids.

Congrats Kate! All this talk about new babies coming up is making me itch for another one. Dh would have a fit, and I'd have no idea how to manage 3 under 5, but still...

Actually, I am just looking for a few things for my specail needs preschooler, like springy scissors, pre reading stuff, puzzles, beading, letters (magnetic or puzzle). So this may work for me. I am not looking for quantity, just more learning type stuff than I can find at chapters or walmart. Thanks for all the stores. I am going to check them out this weekend.

Catherine, ignore me if you can't or don't want to answer this question (or pm me if you'd rather) but are you in a straight foster situation or a fost/adopt? we're hopeful adoptive parents ourselves, so I'm not being rude.

I have no problem answering that question. I work in the NICU and 3.5yrs ago I fell in love with a baby that needed a home (I had been married for 5 months and was only 22, which I consider young) but we took him home. For about 5 minutes the plan was to just foster. Then we fell in love and now we are in the LOOOONG process of adopting him. If I were to do it again, it would only be foster to adopt. I can`t imagine giving any child back. We now have a biological child as well. Feel free to ask any questions you like.

BTW, I think I'm the only other mama from Surrey that posts in this thread, where abouts are you? (I'm near Guildford mall.)
I am in very close, Bolivar Heights, near Surrey Traditional school. It is a nice little neighbourhood with lots of young familys. Just dont wander too far alone...

Oops, my SIL told me it was Port Coquitlam, but I guess it's in PM. . . haven't been there myself. I was just pretty impressed with the amount of stuff in their catalogue, but not sure about their prices, as I haven't really done comparison shopping for supplies and arts/crafts things.

I wouldn't normally post something like this but I am just sick with shock and grief. I don't know if any of you heard the news tonight. The family involved in the accident on Hwy 1 this morning are members of my kid's school community. Please, I ask you to pray for the 8 year old boy. His older (9yrs) and younger (6yrs) brothers have been killed and he has sustained a very serious spinal injury. Please, please pray (to whomever you need to) that he is able to recover.

Oh, definitely in my thoughts as well, I couldn't IMAGINE. :

Hello! Here I am, sitting in Comox visiting friends, chasing chickens out of the Barth and recovering from the chaos of getting here! We're all well, and excited to be here, and for what's to come!!!! I'm not even minding the rainy drizzle, what a perfect excuse to sit in front of the fire and play games!

Ksenia, I love reading your blog, thanks so much for linking to it! It'll be a little bit before we really organize our trip website, but I do keep a blog primarily for family (ie disclaimer to say don't expect it to be overly interesting!!!!!!!) if you ever feel compelled to check it out: http://thefourmckays.blogspot.com

Anyways, just wanted to say hello to all!!!
xoxo

Congratulations Kate!!!!!!!!! Perhaps I'll meet your little one when we're driving through Nelson - the Canadian portion will be spring/summer, so I'll look forward to stopping in to see as many people as possible then!!!!

Okay, now off to write holiday cards to mail before we take off!!!!!

robugmom, I'm so incredibly sorry for this family, and I have been praying in earnest all of last night and frequently today.

I drove by the accident site twice yesterday during a trip to North Van, and on the way back I was shocked at the damage sustained by the minivan. I had a sinking feeling as I drove past it all again at 3:00 pm. I felt intuitively that there must have been a fatality or at least severe injuries. There was nothing left of it at the rear. I just felt sick when you posted. I cannot believe the absolute selfishness of individuals choosing to drive as single occupants in the HOV lane. I hope they upgrade the current charges to two charges of negligence causing death. Sorry if that sounds harsh, this was just sooo avoidable.

If there is anything at all that I can do for anyone involved, let me know by PMing me. My heart goes out to this mama. Her life has been so dramatically changed in the blink of an eye.
