Pumping Challenge

Thread Starter
It has happened twice now, once yesterday and once today. My breasts feel full, they are even dripping/leaking milk, and yet almost nothing comes out when I pump. I got half an ounce yesterday and half an ounce today. I know I have milk in there! DD is gaining quickly (she is almost 10 weeks old) and nurses through the night. Could there be something going on with my pump? Prior to this I had pumped probably 8 times, each time getting 2 ounces easily. I am using the Medela Single Deluxe. I am not trying to stock up (just need an occasional bottle), which is why I have just been trying to get 2 oz at a time.

I would say it might be your pump. Have you tried replacing the membrane? Also, your pump might not be efficient enough for you. Maybe rent a PIS advanced, they seem to work well for casual/normal pump use. I think for some reason the single pumps are just not as efficient.

I second the pump problem. Is there a place you could go and get yours checked? Is getting a double pump feasible? I would definitely change the membranes and see if the tubing was damaged. Hope that helps.

If it's not your pump, try this to help the letdown:

I was pumping for my mom/half brother for awhile (yes, my mother, age 47 and I have babies the same age ) and using her double mega pump...it was awesome. She took it back and now I'm using the pump you have and I have a lot more trouble with milk flow......but it does sound like your pump could be malfunctioning.
