painting very open concept spaces

Mamas, I'm so lost. What ideas do you have for painting this space on the main level?

I'm really into natural/earthy yet still 'bright' colours. Think happy green, goldenrod yellow, chili orange, maybe some red, rich brown, but still looking for balance (don't want too dark).
The kitchen cabinets will be chocolate brown and the floors natural maple. We still have to purchase our living room furniture and will be buying a sectional. We can have pretty much whatever colour we'd like, so any ideas on that would also be appreciated!
The dining room furniture is a deep chocolate brown, and the space marked 'living room' is actually going to be a music room/reading room for the kids with kid-size furniture, a small piano and some bookcases, with possibly a craft table of some sort. The window coverings will probably be bamboo roller blinds.
I'm mostly confused about where to change colours...should it be one colour for kitchen/great room and one colour for living/dining? What about the entryway?

Oh, maybe some pictures would be helpful. This is the model home. It has the floors we will have, but the cabinets in the model are much lighter than the chocolate we will choose:

Dining room....right behind/beside this is the living room that will be the music/reading room (see floor plan). The colour will have to go right up the wall in the stair well. We will have an extra window...this model doesnt' have one in the stair well but we will, which might allow for darker?

Music/reading room (called living room on floor plan). This shared the same space with the dining room (so other end of long room):

Great room. Kitchen is behind this (and there is an eat-in area between kitchen and great room)

Kitchen (cabinets will be chocolate brown):

I'd also appreciate advice on living room rug colour.

There are more divisions in this space than I initially thought. The wall in the music/reading room seems to be an easy accent wall (in the picture anyway) as does the angled fireplace wall. The wall that adjoins the pantry seems the likely accent wall for the dining area. Rich brown also sounds like it would be great for the music/reading room (conceptually, but harder b/c of the attached dining room. Although, you could do thick stripes when you get to the dining room part.) I like the chili orange or red for the kitchen, or the red for the dining accent. My preference for my house would be to do a more minty green with chocolate cabinets, as I am a mint and chip fan-- my fav. day spa has this color scheme-- how relaxing!

Sorry I'm not more help. Still, congratulations on your new space and have fun!

I would do a neutral off-white everywhere with accent walls in colors you love. You could do a block of color (fairly wide and floor to ceiling) in the kitchen since there doesn't seem to be a good single wall.
