Am I knitting backwards...

And does it matter?

I haven't knit since my DD was born nearly four years ago. I was never an expert - got up to hats and a few easy socks, etc. Anyway, I just started an easy, broken rib scarf pattern.

As I was giving myself a refresher on the basics, I realized that I seem to knit backwards. I hold the "yarn" in my right hand and the scarf/product side in my left hand. Is this backwards? Or am I confused? And, most important, does it matter? Thanks!

It sounds like you're knitting English style, as opposed to continental (sp?!) That's how I knit. If you go to knittinghelp.com, they have videos showing both ways.

I have just started learning to knit and crochet, yes at the same time. I don't know why??
But anyway that is how I was shown.

Your knitting sounds fine to me. There is another way to knit- continental which is supposed to be faster- but I just can't seem to master that.

They way you are knitting is also called "throwing" and continental is called "picking".
