It is out there but hard to find. DS had them the beginning of September (caught from someone with Shingles). I know we passed it to at least one other family but I think that may have been it.

I don't understand why would you be looking for them to catch it? Unless you don't vaccinate for it? Just curious...the title caught my attention!

I Would Love To Find Chickenpox Too!

I have a 9 mo too and live in Eastern MA, the south shore area... so

(lovebeingamomma: I'm not going to vac for chickenpox. I'd rather get chickenpox and have a high chance of lifelong immunity, than possible immunity from the vac but need boosters every 10 years or so.)

(navars2: your kid can get chickenpox from an adult with shingles? No kidding. I have an aunt who gets the shingles every now and then (for some reason, she doesn't have lifelong immunity). As if she wants a whole bunch of kids running around her house while she's feels like crap. But I'll keep in touch with her on if/when she gets them again. Then I'll pass it on

You absolutely can catch them from shingles! One of the inane reasons that has been given for getting the vaccine is to prevent shingles... Well, it turns out that you can still get shingles after getting the vaccine and you have to get boosters and risk getting CP at a much worse/more dangerous age.

Shingles is the same virus as CP. When you have CP (or get the vaccine), the virus can go dormant in your nerves. At times in your lives when your immune system is suppressed (stress, illness, old age), the virus can reactivate in the form of shingles.

I wish I'd been more active here when DS was sick. We live in Foxboro and spend a lot of time in Westwood/Dedham/Norwood.

I'm a good example of why you shouldn't vax for pox. I never had it as a child. As an adult it was a requirement for employment. I didn't know better so I got the vax. I not only had an allergic reaction-I just had my titres checked and I'm NOT immune. I got the vax w/in the last 7 years.

Now I'm 30 and still haven't had pox. I want DD to get it but that means I'm going to be sick as a dog too...and I'll have to expose myself at the same time as DD so I don't get it secondary.

I just had a note sent home from ds school that someone in his class has it and my ds hasn't had the vaccine. The incubation time is Nov. 30 - Dec 11. I'll post if we get it!! We're in RI.

i was just diagnosed with shingles today. weird, i'm just 27years old. it's at the oozy blistery stage right now day 5 since i noticed the rash. i'm nursing and thought it was thrush in a weird place because it is between my breasts but it's not. just saw the doctor this morning.

by the way, if anyone is interested, i have an 11month old, and a almost 4 year old, and an 8 year old. we do not vaccinate. they aren't showing symptoms yet.
