Possible only to have contractions in back?

Since I haven't had *any* signs of labor or any real pains during my pregnancy I'm not sure if this is just the norm for 39 weeks. For the past 30 min. I've noticed a spasm in my back that will last about 30 sec. and then go away, not quite sure how far in between the spasms, but had it about 3 times so far. It's definitely a new pain for me and I'm not sure if this could mean something or maybe it's just him moving down?

Could be back labor?? I'd take a hot bath and see if that relaxes any muscles... if not, then it's prolly real?

I hope you take a hot bath, the "spasms" stop, and you have a nice easy labor and see baby soon!

Hmm... I'd have to say yes, its possible. I was having a ton of pain in my back and the OB I saw at the hospital asked if she could do a VE to check to see if I've dilated since contractions can be felt in the back and affect the cervix. I've never had back labor before.. guess I never will either.

I hope you get some rest!

I had a few back spasms that I've never had before last week. I attributed it to the baby moving down further as no labor resulted from it.

With DD labor started with only back pains. I thought I had pulled a muscle until I realized they were about 4-5 minutes apart and getting closer. Try taking a bath and see if they calm down, otherwise it might just be the real thing.

Spasms turned into constant back pain, I'm guessing he's just dropping further on down. I can't complain though b/c I haven't had any real pains up until now and I like to believe it shows he's going in the right direction! DH put in a guess of Nov. 5th awhile back, so he may be right. Although I do think it would be neat to have a baby on Election Day this year!

I had back labor with both of my girls. A trick the midwife did to turn DD#2 (back labor is caused by a baby who's face up instead of down) was to have me get in the tub on my hands and knees with my belly in and back out. The baby turned to be in the warm water. Might try that if it starts back up again. Even if it's not active labor, turning the baby like that could help move the pain/pressure.

Does anyone know if they can move back and forth? I seem to be having pain that keeps moving from front to back. Nothing timable though.

I would imagine, that depending on where the baby is, it could if they are moving a bit. But I'm not a midwife, lol.

Oh hes a mover, thats for darn CERTAIN! I know its totally selfish of me, but I am so miserable, and I just want this to be real labor finally. But its so hard to tell. My first labor was TEXTBOOK. Water breaks, ctx start 15 mins later, 5-7 mins apart, 6 hours later, there he is. This one I have a feeling is going to keep me guessing. But this is the most activity I have felt since I was in the hosp 4 weeks ago with minor ctx and a HORRIBLE Migraine.

Lurking because I love to read about all the new babies...

16 years ago in my Lamaze class one of my classmates showed up the last session with her baby. She had been in meetings all day the day of the birth and had had terrible back pain...spasms that came and went. She chalked it up to being due any day and when she called her doctor, she was told to go ahead and get checked out. Well, she was fully dilated and ready to push so her labor had all been in her back. So...could be!
