I LOVE my long hair, but - *PICS post #15*

I don't know what to do with it! I'd love to just wear it in a single braid, but I cannot master doing it backwards. So I end up just pulling it back in a ponytail. It's strawberry blonde (a light reddish color), and down to my waist, and thick. It tends to get in the way a lot, but I don't know what else to do with it.

I wish someone else in this house could braid, but they can't. Please help me learn to braid backwards, or give me other styling tips. I'd appreciate it very much!!

Mine is more of an Irish Setter red, thick and down to my knees!

I usually twist it into a figure-8 bun on the back of my head and clip it in place. I also braid it (haven't mastered sefl-French braiding yet).

With a dh and a 15 and 13 year old, you have people that CAN learn to braid it for you!! Dh learned to braid my hair after we married. It is still one of those special luxuries when he brushes and braids my hair for me!

You don't have to braid it down the back. Make two braids (one on either side) and twist and secure those up high.

There are a number of websites that explain all kinds of long hair techniques. I have a Klutz book of braiding that dh and I love (easy directions and good pictures).

Nice to hear about another long-haired gal!

Wow, I bet your hair is gorgeous!! And that's awesome your DH braids it for you. Maybe I can get mine to.

I've been searching for good websites about long hair, but it's usually celebrity-oriented. Still looking though.

Thanks!

Try slanting your search towards "feminine hair" or something like that. I've seen websites with all kinds of how-to instructions for long hair that are targeted for women who wear long hair for religious reasons and who believe in "feminine dress."

This is a great site for long haired folks. They have tutorials for long hair specific styles under "articles" along the top once you register. And this is another site started by a member of LHC with great how to's for longer hair styles.

I have long brown hair down to my hiney. I wear it up most of the time in a weird loose bun that is held with a scrunchy on the back of my head, I'm lucky in one way it is fine and thin.

Have you tried to braid it so that it hangs over your shoulder?

I have a difficult time braiding it at the nape of my neck if I'm looking in a mirror, I will seprate it into threes while looking then I have to turn away from the mirror or else I get confused.

Something I have been doing is putting it in a nape pony tail the bringing the end back up to the scrunchy and adding another scruchy to hold the end at the nape where the 1st schruchy is, basically making a ponytail that is only /2 as long.

I'll have to check out those sites later.

Anyone want to share pictures?

Come on over! I'll put on some tea and teach anyone who needs to learn how to braid, bun, twist, etc. I have very few impressive skills in this world, but I am a whiz with long hair. I'm actually wearing mine a little shorter than I used to: it is just past waist length. My basis styles are down, in a bun, or french braided. My long-haired dds like trying out different types of braids.

I agree with Flutterbee, the Long Hair Care site (often referred to as LHC) is great. Everyone there has or is trying to have long hair, and we discuss various ways to care for it and to style it.

I'd LOVE to come over! I did master a bun yesterday. LOL, I had to use 2 bamboo knitting needles to hold it in place, but it did work. I thought it looked great, DH even thought so too.

I've been enjoying doing two braids, which can be braided forwards instead of backwards, and it actually doesn't look ridiculous on my 33 year old self like I thought it might.

Here is some other easy ways to deal with long hair:
To make a bun: put your hair in a ponytail with thin scrunchy, then roll ponytail hair around it and pin it. You can wear your bun on top of the head, at the back.
You can put a ponytail really low in the back as well than lift the ponytail hair up in a loop and use second scrunchy.
Braiding backwards is easy once you get how to do it; really easy mathod again is to put hair in a ponytail and braid it then, much easier.

I used to have long hair, down to hiney as well. I found that I could only braid it by not looking in the mirror. Also, I mostly put it half-up in a barrette first, dive in three (one being hair in b.) and then braid. Faster than a french braid
