My husband's read every Harry Potter and we watched the movies together. He is starting to hate the movies because they leave so much out from the books. As someone who hasn't read them (yeah, there are one or two of us out there) I found the movies really lame. And I think I'll enjoy the books very much despite having seen the movies first.

Years ago, a woman i worked with said her son thought the second harry potter movie was so lame. And he hadnt read the book, so he therefore felt the books were lame too. I think they did a pretty good job on the movies (well, dont get me started on what they left out of PoA)...but yeah, a giant talking spider might seem lame if you dont have the context.

Most of the time I skip the movie completely. The movies are usually so disappointing after the book that it's just a waste of time and money to bother watching them. Harry Potter is an exception.
That is one series of books/movies that it doesn't matter as much. By the third one all they share is a title.
