Hi All ~ I tried my hand pump for the first time today (DD is 2w3d) and was lucky to get an ounce of milk. With DS (5.5 years ago) I had a PIS and the most I could ever get in a day was 4 ounces (and believe me, we tried EVERYTHING), so this time I thought I'd start off with a hand pump to see how well it would go before we rent a hospital pump. I exclusively bf'd DS until I returned to work when he was 12 weeks, then we had to start supplementing with formula after a few days. I really don't want to do that again, even though there were no problems (and he continued to nurse until he was 5y2m). I just really hoped that with the second baby I'd have enough milk to pump easily.

Has anyone else overcome this problem? Any suggestions for how to get more milk from each pumping session? Should I pump hourly (ouch), or in between feedings (DD nurses about every 2 hours depending on the time of day), or . . . ? Any help is much appreciated!
