Hospitals in Morgantown vs Charleston WV??

Are the hospitals in Morgantown more natural birth minded? So far I am only hearing horrible things about the hospitals in Charleston. I'm expecting and I high risk (midwife is NOT an option unfortunately). I will have to have a cesarean but I am willing to drive to Morgantown if it will offer us a better environment. I want to be able to room in with baby, have baby asap after birth, delay the eye ointment (do they even need that after a cesarean?) - things like that. From what I'm hearing from local moms these are pretty unreasonable expectations here. I'm feeling quite sad about the whole situation. We've been in WV less than 3 weeks and I'm ready to go home

Update: I just spoke with the Nurse Manager for L&D at Women's and Children's Hospital. She was very kind and very reassuring. Gave me her number and said to call if we have any more questions or issues now or during/after the birth. I feel a lot better and have stopped crying. I'm sure my hormone filled pregnant mind will find a new thing to cry over, but I feel better for now.

I had ds at Mon General in Morgantown and it was a nice experience. I didn't have a c-section and birthed with a CNM so I don't know how to situation would play out differently with an OB and c/s. They did put the eye drops in his eyes, even though it was on our birth plan not to but we did room in the whole time and all the nurses were nice. We did have one nurse just offer to give ds some sugar water but after dh and his mom basically chewed her out about it she apologized. I also had pre-e and gbs so maybe the gbs was why he had the ointment - who knows. But overall, it was a nice experience and I wouldn't have a problem going back there again but we're trying for a homebirth this time (nothing to do with the hospital or the cnm's but b/c it just seems right)

I can't tell you anything about Ruby, I just wouldn't birth there. It all seems so - typical, but I guess it just depends on who you're birthing with.

Hope that helps some!

I wouldn't birth at Ruby, but I've heard good things about Mon General. I live in Morgantown, but drove to Preston Memorial in Kingwood to birth my babies. The CNM there, Cindy Brown is AWESOME. They "allow" waterbirths there and heavily promote breastfeeding and they thought it was awesome that I wanted to keep my baby in bed with me when I was there. Cindy was the only one delivering there when I went (with a dr. available for emergencies), but now she is in a practice with an OB/GYN and another mw. I know they try to keep the focus on natural birth as much as possible. I know when one of Cindy's patients would have a c-section, she would be there and the baby would not be taken from the room. Baby would stay right there with the mama. If you aren't up for Preston, I'd say go with Mon General.

If you decided on Mon General, I would go with this practice:

from what i hear, via moms who have given birth at both camc and mon general (there are a few here in charleston, actually), mon general is much more mom and baby friendly. rooming in is not an issue, apparently (from what i hear, you have to fight for it at camc), and bfing support is better. we're 17 weeks pg now, and, if, for some reason, a risk presents pre-labor, we'll camp out at my parents' house in morgantown to avoid a camc birth to birth at mon general or preston (they're on the mon/preston county line...preston hosp is just a bit further.)

You have mail, and I didn't even realize this was you when I read this earlier.

I second MonGeneral for what you need!

Thanks for the replies! I really do appreciate it.
I was just looking at Mon General's online info about their birth center. It looks a lot like where I had my last baby. I wonder though if I have a scheduled cesarean (see this thread before replying to that please), what will my room & experience be like?

mama!

I'm not really too familiar with what will happen when you have a c-section but I do know that your room and everything will be the same as if you had a vaginal birth, as far as I know. And I don't see why they wouldn't allow you to room in with the baby since they do encourage that. Maybe you could call and talk to them about it.

Thanks for the hug - I'll take it! This morning I've been thinking about the drive back home after having the baby. And the four children I have already - it would be tough for them to drive two hrs. to see me and the baby. The nurse manager of L&D at Women's & Children's said she would give me a tour of what to expect when I come there for the cesarean. I think at that point I'll know if I want to be there or not.
