New to Nebraska, need HB info

Hello! My family just moved to Bellevue this past weekend. My husband is a contractor working at the air force base. I am nearly 17 weeks pregnant and was planning a home birth in Virginia before this new job in Nebraska came along. I am in desperate need of some information about home birthing in the Omaha area. I am hoping I don't have to give up my dream of having my first home birth. Thanks!

Homebirth is technically illegal in the state of NE. There are a few HB midwives that do attend here, but you have to find out about them through word of mouth etc. There are 2 practices of midwives at UNMC (the med center) and Methodist. But you would have to give birth in a hospital setting.

It's illegal for a CNM to assist a hb, it's not illegal to have a hb. Most other types of MW stay away from hb as well b/c of legal concerns. Check out the NE Friends of MWs group on yahoo, that would probably be your best bet to trying to find someone.
