And which one should I read first?

Not like I've got time to read, but am trying to channel the emotion someplace ...

I hear ya on channeling emotion, but I can't I am just weeping tears of joy, just let 'em come!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have "The Audacity of Hope", its easy read (i.e. not dry) and helps you get to know Obama a lot better, like you're sitting down and talking to him

I have only read Dreams from my Father at this point in time. Good book

I've only read Dreams of My Father. I read most of it in one night... but...

I got really bored near the end and stopped reading it when I had about 20 pages left to go...

I read Dreams From My Father first, and got The Audacity of Hope on cd and listened to it last summer. The first one, for me, really told who Obama is and the other is more about what he stands for.

I read Dreams from my Father a year ago. It's good although he is verbose. Surprise, surprise.

I'm still waiting for someone in my book club to give me Audacity of Hope. I'm afraid I'll be waiting for a good long while.

I agree. I would like to read the next one.

I'd start with Dreams from My Father, because you really learn about him as a person.

It's not a great book, it drags a bit and some of the writing is pretty bad, but it's also a very revealing and personal book. I haven't read Audacity of Hope yet, but I might in the future.

Just got the audiobook of "Dreams." Audiobooks are a mama's best friend.

I listened to Audacity of Hope on audio cd - it was good but I'm afraid it would be pretty BORING to read. That one is more about his politcal career. Dreams of My Father more personal - his early years. I started Dreams but put it aside to read something else. I think its ok, I just was burned out!

I think Dreams of My Father is a lot more interesting and telling. The Audacity of Hope is more careful and political.

I read "Dreams of my Father" after the 2004 Dem Convention and enjoyed the biographical nature of the book. I found "Audacity of Hope" a politically motivated thesis .... much different from the down-to-earth nature of "Dreams". I prefer "Dreams" for its content and more true .. i.e., less political nature.

I just finished "The Dream Begins: How Hawaii Shaped Barack Obama" written by a Honolulu news reporter. I get the feel that this book is specifically written with a Hawaii-fluent reader in mind. Enjoy !

Depends on what you're looking for...
If you're trying to meet Obama as a person, go for Dreams from My Father.
If you're trying to figure out his politics and policy positions, go for Audacity of Hope.

The main difference is that he was not in politics when he wrote Dreams From My Father, so there is very little about his governance in there or his political perspectives.
