arg. so i have had two consecutive urine tests of +2 protien in my urine and now bp that was 118/95. i have never had the systolic number be above 80, ever, my bp is usually 110/70 or less. i am having a homebirth and my midwives said this all has to improve for that to happen. their suggestions, well really orders, are; eat 120 grams of protein per day (yuck, i hate food lately so this is hard, i mean that's like meat all. day. long.). i aalso am to walk 45 minutes a day and rest for 2 45 minute periods per day. and go to the local fire dept. and get my bp checked eod. i feel so weird having a problem like this, i thought i ate really well you know all organic, fish oil, whole foods ect. but my midwives seem to believe toxemia is treated basically by eating a ton of protien. im freaked out and i just wish the baby would come now so this would all be over. i am 37 weeks today.

Oh, that's so tough. Can you so something like peanut butter instead of meat?

oh man... that's disappointing.

I've periodically had some protein issues in my urine this pregnancy and was able to get it under better control by upping the protein and drinking 3-4 L of water a day. I have to snack through the night to be able keep my body happy with the spacing. There really is a weird connection. I am not sure if it will do the trick for you, but I sincerly hope that it does.

120 grams...
2 servings of "meat" = 50 grams @ 25g each
2 eggs = 14 grams @ 7g each
4 servings dairy or dairy alternative = 32 grams @ ~8g each
1 serving nuts or nut butter = 7 grams
4-5 servings whole wheat/grain bread = 12-20 grams @ 3-4g each

you can also sub beans/brown rice as a meat but I forget the exchange atm

hope that helps give you some ideas

hang in there momma!

So sorry you are having to deal with this.

As others have posted...drink lots of water. Eat snacks literally all day. Make some smoothies with yogurt, tofu, or some kind of nut butter (assuming you are not allergic).

Eat at least 2 eggs a day. I try to keep a bowl of boiled eegs in the fridge for snacking although my boys usually eat them up before I do. Lots you can do to eat two eggs a day. Breakfast is easy with two eggs...scrambled, omlet, fried, etc.

For lunch/dinner ideas...egg drop spoup...miso egg drop soup would be great!

Wheat germ has protein in it. You can add that to yogurt, ice cream, oatmeal, home made bread, muffins....anything.

I hope things turn around and you have that fabulous homebirth.

Sorry mama!!

Like pp said, salt food to taste. Keep your electrolytes balanced, and eat eggs or beans instead of meat if you have to.

When your MWs go to check your BP, if it is high, ask them if you can rest for a few minutes, then have them check it again. Maybe it is just the stress and worry of your appointment that is spiking your BP. In the office, lie down and practice your birth breathing, meditate, or pray. Focus on relaxing and feel the tension melt out of you. This has helped me A LOT. I will get worked up about my appointments, especially if I have to drive, then my BP is high. But when I lay down and give myself a few minutes of peace and deep breathing, my numbers come right down.

Good luck mama!!

Ive had some high readings that go down when they don't use the blood pressure machine. I hate that thing, it always feels like its breaking my arm. Im thinking of have DH keep DD out in the waiting room next appointment as well since she hates seeing people touch me and every time she gets upset I do as well. Luckily the doctor I have realizes that its the point and is always willing to take it again at the end of the appointment (by then its always a lot lower).

Im sorry about the protien diet. That sucks! Im not a big meat eater (or egg, or dairy for that matter) so it would be hard to keep it up.
