Ideas for relieving nausea, etc.

I was just thinking maybe it would be useful for all of us to list what is working or has worked for us in the past. I have a feeling I'm going to need some more ideas...

What worked last time:
Vitamin B-50 tablets 2-3x a day
Seabands (those nausea bracelets that use pressure points--marketed for motion sickness)

What sort of works this time:
Eating constantly (if only I could bring myself to eat)
Lots of protein (same problem)
A big glass of raw milk usually settles my stomach temporarily

Last time Apple juice warmed up with a piece of ginger in it worked. Hylands makes a motion sickness tablet...that has been working so far. I never have gotten Morning Sickness very bad, and I'm hoping this time around I am as lucky. I just get a little woozy, if I don't eat, but most of the time nothing sounds really good.

this is my 4th pregnancy and i hade m.s. with all of em. i find eating, even if you think you might hurl, will help you right away. i try a little toast or something like that.

The problem I have, that I'm sure everybody has, is that I feel so sick when my stomach is empty..but I can't think of anything to eat that doesn't make me want to gag. With my last pregnancy, I threw caution to the wind and in the mornings and afternoons just ate what I could - like plain waffles, apple slices, clementines, plain Cheerios - instead of trying to make everything I ate some kind of perfect meal. It worked for me. Now I just have to stock up on everything again!

This is basically my issue but it's killing me because I try to eat a TF (traditional foods) based diet and I'm finding that to be next to impossible--even though I *know* how important it is. I'm just frustrated.

Ginger ale works really good for me.

Not letting my stomach get empty is helping me so far. I'm having a hard time bringing myself to eat something first thing in the morning, too, though. I need to get waffles.

With my other pregnancies, once the bad nausea really sets in, I usually take Emetrol. You can take it every 15 minutes until it helps.

Eating helps me a lot...interesting about nursing...I feel more nauseous this time than with my first...but I feel nauseous often just with nursing if I don't eat often enough---I swear I'm going to gain 10lbs by my first check up lol...

I'm not as much nauseous as just totally not interested in eating, or hungry. I had a stomach bug last week and a cold this week, and I've lost 3 lbs. I have to remind myself every few hours to eat something, but nothing sounds good and I kinda have to choke it down. The only thing I want is orange flavored anything - sherbet, juice, pop, candy, etc! But obviously I can't just eat that junk! I'm hoping that ms doesn't kick in, or I'm gonna be in trouble.

Ginger tea, ginger ale and ginger flavored altoids have helped me in the past, especially while riding in the car.

Don't allow yourself to become hungry
Don't drink water all at once
Make sure to eat something with protein first thing in the morning (I know... the last thin you want in the morning is an egg or bacon, but if you push yourself to eat that, it does wonders!!)

I didn't have m/s so badly for pregnancy #1 and nothing yet this time around, but last time when it did get to me I tried those Preggie Pop candy things (only when I couldn't stand it - and only the sour fruit ones.) I don't know if it was some sort of placebo-effect or if the ginger in them just really did the trick, but I always felt much better when I was sucking on one of those!

Keeping food in my stomach and keeping hydrated really helped. Sometimes plain water made me nauseous, so I would drink carbonated water or add some lemon to tap water.

Peppermint

I've been using a pepermint bassed essential oil on my sleeve or shirt collar this time around and in addition to everything else people have listed out, this scent seems to help. It's kind of like bringing a big breath of crisp cold air into the house with me.

Taking a few deep breaths have helped me so far on wafts of nausea, but I also know I'm at about a 4 on the 1-10 scale and I'm likely headed towards about an 8 over thanksgiving (10 being hurling, 8 being close to that wish-I-could-hurl point).

I've been flavoring/coloring my water with a splash of 100% cranberry juice. That seems to help, or maybe that just suggests it will be a boy (bitter flavors instead of sweet).

I barely had any nausea with any of my other pregnancies (maybe once or twice for a brief moment). This time around it's just this constant low level yuckiness. Somewhat like the first stages of motion sickness, but instead of temporary or increasing it's just always there. Empty belly, full belly.

It's a real real bummer. I'm the type of person who likes to just hurl and get it over with. But there is no fix to this feeling

I have only encountered M.S. twice so far, once I was driving to work, and had no food with me, so I drank a bunch of water, and that helped kind of, the other time I took a nap!

Last time: Sea bands and grazing constantly. Lemonade

This time: A little early for the really bad stuff, but I have preggie pop drops in my desk, trying to snack frequently, going to put crackers on my night stand. Lemonade. Morning Wellness tea.

turtlewomyn,
where did you find morning wellness tea?
I used to be (until about 2 weeks ago!) an avid morning coffee drinker. Thankfully it sounds repulsive now, so it's not so hard to say no! But I have been looking for some good teas that are baby ok.

As has been mentioned so many times here, not letting myself get hungry is key. Of course, my serious nausea didn't start until 6 weeks last time, and I'm only about 5 weeks, so I don't want to speak too soon.

Last time, I got by somehow drinking TONS of sparkling mineral water with lots of fresh lemon juice added. Ginger ale was good too, but I couldn't drink regular water without vomiting, so the sparkling water was my savior.

Meat

My secret weapon... MEAT.

I have been keeping a supply of cooked meat on hand. Red meat. An entire crock pot sitting on the counter full of beef and venison. I call it glop.

With my first pregnancy I threw up about 50 times in the first trimester. It was awful, I was working and had to call in late nearly daily, because I would throw up the minute I got in the car. There would be a 5 minute window where I could eat a second breakfast and be fine... but if I missed that window.... uh oh!

My second pregnancy I was at home, and I had a toddler to take care of, somehow having to getting up and cook food for her actually helped. I was taking action instead of laying around smelling the food smells coming from the kitchen... I threw up about a dozen times my entire pregnancy. And I ate alot of protein, even when I didn't want to. I put it in my mouth and chewed it, and chewed it and made myself swallow.. I called it "masticating my food".

So, when I found out i was pregnant, I got about 6 pounds of meat, seared it in a frying pan and then slapped it in the crock pot with cream of mushroom soup, beef broth and red wine. I let it cook till it was falling apart and have been eating it in small portions whenever I feel even a little bit yucky. We are talking about 8 or 9 times a day. It's easy to chew and easy to swallow. It makes me feel sleepy, happy and content.

So whip out your crock pot and give it a try... MEAT is good.
