1. Who is Calpurnia and what is her role in the Finch home? She is like a mother with limits.



2. What does Walter Cunningham's behavior suggest about his homelife? What is interesting about the way Atticus treats Walter? He respects his parents and their wishes. He is having a hard time processing mentally their lifestyle and reasoning. He is having to be old before his time. Atticus treats him like an adult because he lives like an adult in many ways.


4. What does Scout learn from Walter's visit? About how to treat guests in her home. Respect in some sense.


5. Atticus says that you never really understand a person “until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”. What does this mean? How well does Scout take to this lesson? In everything you have to try to understand why a person makes the decisions they do. What in their life is effecting their choices. My grandma always said the "walk a mile in their shoes" saying. I don't think Scout really understands this totally, but she is trying to.


6. What do you learn about the Ewells in this chapter? They've given up on life and because the parents are no example for the children the town looks over their transgressions.
