Continuing vacs dilemma with my 12m DD

My DD has only had 2 shots so far. HIB at 6 months and DTaP at 8 months. Here's the deal:

I'm petrified of Pertussis and meningitis. I'm also scared of what's in these shots, especially DTaP.

My DD will be a year old in less than 2 weeks. I have missed many of the standard vacs, and now soon the MMR will be on my mind. I really don't want to do anymore shots, but I will, if my DD absolutely needs them. I already cancelled a recent appointment for my DD to get the 2nd DTaP. I chickened out again. I would love to stop them and stop worrying, but I can't.

So, what about Pertussis? How serious is this over one years old? I understand for babies under 6 months, it's very serious. As far as the other vacs, I just don't know. I have read Dr. Sears Vaccination Book and am still scared to be on either side of the fence. So the saying, goes "you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't."

Am I the only one facing this dilemma?

Oh, I should mention that I am still BF'ing and am a SAHM that doesn't do playgroups.

Pertussis is not severe in children over a year old. (Annoying, and prolonged, from what I gather, but not life-threatening)

The Meningitis vaccines are no good because while they have eliminated the types of meningitis they are good for, there are infinite numbers of types to replace them.

You seem to be concentrating too much on the chance that she could get sick. Why not concentrate on the fact that she is healthy?

Is she healthy?
Does she look healthy?
Does she meet most of the milestones?
Is she growing?
Is she bright?

Why worry about things that may never happen, and when they do, you can treat them with natural healing aids or even conventional meds?

Like previous poster said, wc is only dangerous up to 6 mo. And meningitis is a condition not a disease. You can vaccinate all you want of the bacteria the "might" be the cause, but other bacteria just take over and can do much more damages. That's what happens when the body is out of balance. Leave Mother Nature alone, she knows what she is doing.

My pediatrician said that pertussis is an issue for babies under 6 months and after that it's not a big deal. Partly because that shot series isn't done until six months (so when they're most vulnerable, the shot doesn't protect them), we chose not to bother with it.

IS there a new pertussis vaccine available now? The one being used 2 years ago was pretty ineffective.

The Pertussis component of the vaccine is highly reactive; it also does not prevent infection or transmission (my 2yo gave it to me while I was pregnant and we were both up to date on the vax).

The Hib vaccine has not lowered the rates of meningitis. 1#. It is a condition, like a broken leg, and can be caused by many things. 2#. Nature abhors a vacuum; if you eliminate one bacteria there is another to take its place.

I give my children sodium ascorbate at the first sign of a sniffle.

Measles Mumps and Rubella are all mild childhood diseases. The MMR vaccine is highly reactive and not all that effective. In recent measles outbreaks over half of those effected were fully vaxed. I would def skip the MMR.
As for DTaP I agree with all the PP's not worth the risk, but I do know how you feel. I have a 6 month old son, 100 vax free and I worry too. But I worry more about vaccine damage than I do about the small chance he could get one of these diseases.
