anyone GBS+ and NOT doing antibiotics?

Just found out I am GBS +. I am starting to try some holistic remedies to get rid of it...garlic, acidopholus, echinacea tea and giving up all the sugar (leftover Halloween candy) I have been eating!!!

Wondering if anyone has had success w/ holistic remedies to get rid of the GBS? Has anyone tested positive and not done the antibiotic thing?

I tested negative w/ DD so this is all new to me. I will ask my midwives to test me again next week.

THANKS,
Brenda

I was just tested this week and do not have the results yet, but my midwives said that if I were to be positive, they would recommend a holistic Doc for me to go to and that he would give me a shot of penicillin.

I am GBS+ with only a week to go, so there wasn't really time to retest. I am on a regimen of probiotics, garlic tablets and vitamin C that I started over a month ago. I'm keeping it up even though it didn't ensure me the GBS negative outcome I wanted; I figure it doesn't hurt to keep it up.

I am having a birth at a natural waterbirth center that does not have antibiotics, so I won't be getting abx. I've heard that the water helps dilute bacteria and the chances of baby being infected are so small. This center has had 1/3 of moms test GBS+ over ten years and not one case of baby being infected.

I did not get the test and Im not taking antibiotics. My midwife is going to do an herbal cleanse on me when I first go into labor. I was positive with my duaghter and didnt get the antibiotics (well I did but only an hour of the 8 hours I was supposed to) and she was fine.

i did not test and would not to the anbx if i did test +. (even though my MW could give them to me at home if i wanted them)
i didn't test with my ds either, i used hibeclens as a wash when i went into labor and had a home waterbirth (he was also born in the caul) and although i'll never know if i was GBS+ or not, he was just fine...i am doing the same with this one...hibeclens and waterbirth.

The English do not typically do the GBS testing in women unless they shows signs of having it or have had it before, then they will test...but it is *not* routine here. so imagine how many women are asymptomatic and are not tested at all...and yet my MW worked in an NHS hospital for over 8 years and never saw a sick baby from it.

do what you can do, and then try not to worry about it.

As a person who did lots of research on this topic, I had decided to not take the antibiotics. It seems the risk of infection to the child is very small. Unfortunately, in a weak moment, I allowed my midwife to talk me into taking the antibiotics and in retrospect, I wish I wouldn't have. She missed my vein, and that resulted in my arm swelling up and feeling like someone had injected ice cold glass into my arm. : It was very distracted during my otherwise serene and peaceful labor.
Obviously do some research on your own to see if the risk seems small enough to skip the antibiotics. And be stronger than I was! Stick to your decision and your birth plan!

I had been worried about this, with my last 3 hospital births I was GBS- and never worried about it. This time I am having a homebirth and had thought about what I would do if I was GBS+. I just had the test done on Friday so hopefully when I see my mw next week she will have the results. I wont be doing abx either, because the midwife recommends more natural remedies.
