Which one looks better???

We are in the process of trying to sell our house. I'm trying to make things less.....tacky. The one big piece of tackiness is our kennell for the puppy. She HAS to be in her kennell at night or she will NOT sleep. We had it in the toy room, but now I moved it underneath the stairs. There's lots of air circulation, but it's an eye sore. I had an extra curtain rod so sewed up some curtains with the only fabric I have. I can't afford to go get some more neutral fabric. Of course I'd iron it before I put it up for good. And of course I will move the curtain when the puppy is in it so that the air circulates.

So what the pictures are of is the space RIGHT when you walk in our front door. Should I put the curtain up or leave it down. There's no other option really because I have NO money to buy new fabric or buy soemthing else.

With curtain:

Without curtain (yes that is my child in the kennel. He uses it as a playfort)

Yep, I like the curtain-- it's a coat closet, right?
Now, if you kept your son in the cage, I'd leave the curtain down for the laugh factor

I don't really like the curtian, it distracts from the wall color, which I think is sophisticated

But the inside of the closet is so stinkin' ugly!

i like the curtain

I think curtain is better than no curtain - but neutral would be a little better. Can you raid your linen closet for a bed flat sheet?

With curtain, definitely.

Could you try a thrift store for fabric of a more neutral color? Or freecycle? But definitely the curtain looks better than without.

So since the walls are grey....would you do either a grey or black fabric? I can defenitely check out the thrift store.

I'd try to find a grey fabric at the thrift store.

I like with the curtin better, but not with the fabric that is there, even a white sheet would be better than the current fabric.

I would put a curtain up since it is the first thing you see when you walk in.
The closet isn't really attractive even if you do not have a kennel in it.

If you can find a light color sheet, curtain or fabric I think it would look better than black or a bright color. I have seen curtains, fabric and sheets at thrift stores.

Curtain definitely, especially since the inside of the closet is unpainted/unfinished wood. Also, it's better to reduce visual clutter, and a bunch of different colored coats definitely count as visual clutter. I agree that I'd pick a more neutral fabric... maybe something that matches the door colors in your house?

Gotcha! I stole the curtain from my boys bedroom so that's where it came from. I'll go to the thrift store today and check it out!

Definitely with the curtain.

And bed sheets make great curtains. Even purchased new they can be cheaper than buying fabric. I'd raid your linen closet or hit the thrift store.

Is that a standard size doorway? I'd be on a lookout for a door for it to tell the truth on CL or a surplus supply store for a closet door on the cheap. Some things you want to look good, and keep in mind this is the first impression they will get of your home on the inside when they come to tour the home.

I was just coming to say this!

For a brand new door it's $50, if there's a restore or anything you can get one for cheaper. I'd find a way to get the money for a door.

For the actual dog kennel, when you're showing the house you'll be taking the dog away from the house. Take the kennel & anything that shows there's a dog living there, it can keep people from purchasing a house. Have a neighbor or someone who doesn't come over often visit & find out if the house smells like dog or not.
