It is NOT a standard size doorway. I already tried finding a door door that would fit there or a closet door....no such luck.

Dang, that's too bad...it's bigger or smaller than a regular door? How handy is your husband? Maybe he could change the frame somehow or shave the door or something. I definitely think that this is one of those small things you can do that will really pay off when you're trying to sell your house.

I am a realtor and also do home staging. I would suggest that if you can't find a door .. perhaps an accordian one. if your only resort is a curtain .. try to get some fabric/sheet/or dye the one you have as close to the wall color as possible so it doesn't jump out a people so much. You want it to blend in not stand out.

good luck

I agree on the door. Look around because there are adjustable ones. I know price is a factor but when it is the first thing you when you enter a house it is a priority.

If you must use a curtain then get a solid one. Something more neutral that will work with the room. Sheets are good on the cheap but I would lean more towards a real curtain in a heavier fabric to be more door like.

I have this weird opening in my finished basement (door size) that I covered up with a matchstick blind. We have wood paneling so I went with a wood tone. Maybe you could use a blind in the color of your walls.
