My midwife's latest client just had her baby (means I am next in line yay!) and this birthstory just floored me!
It was ladies second child, she went 2 weeks after her duedate...ended up having a 10 pound, completely OP baby in less than 5 hours (home waterbirth!)...is that not amazing?!
10 1/2 pound OP baby in under 5 hours!
She said when she arrived she checked and mom was at a 7 with a buldging bag of waters and cervix paperthin, baby was way up high and OP. told mom to go take a bath or shower while MW helped hubby set up birthpool. mom gets into tub, a few hours go by and MW starts thinking, hmmm...she probably should have had baby by now. So she asks if she can check her...same thing, buldging bag of waters, 7-8 and cervix paper thin. MW thinks, you know, I bet this bag of waters is keeping this baby from descending and putting better pressure on this cervix, mom says it is okay to break waters. Just as MW does this the baby completely spins around to OA, falls straight onto MW's hand and cervix melts away right from under MW's hand!!! Midwife says "OK! get in tub! get in tub!!! get in tub!!" 10 minutes later baby was born!
I just thought that was so neat! also very telling how even though woman could have pushed right then and had her baby right away, MW urgently told her to get back into the tub knowing how important a waterbirth was for the mom! i just loved that!
anyway, just wanted to share! what an amazing birth story!
