If my daughter likes Junie B. Jones...

What else might my 5.5 year old beginning-reader enjoy?

She loves having me read a couple chapters at a time of Junie B. Jones, but I'm just not familiar with what else is out there that she might like. Any recommendations?

We haven't read Junie B Jones but, my DD LOVES the Rainbow Magic books. There are 7 books in each series. The first series are the "Rainbow Fairies" then there are the "Jewel Fairies" and the "Weather Fairies" - there are several series of Rainbow Magic books. Each book builds on the next and the characters poop up on all the different series. My DD adores them.

She's also really enjoying the Flower Fairy Friends series.

Other chapter books DD loves are the Little House on the Praire series as well as Nancy Drew. The Nancy Drew series has books for beginning readers, intermediate and more advanced. I think the beginning ones are called Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew.

Also, American Girl has a series of books out that show wonderful, strong, competent girls.

The Boxcar Children and The Magic Treehouse are two other children's series books that are really good although DD never really got into them (but, I liked them!)

Dd loves Junie B. Jones, and though the reading level is a little easier she still adores Henry and Mudge.

I actually enjoyed reading Junie B. Jones out loud. Dd and I cracked up, and have even adopted a few Junieisms. I love a plumpery pillow!

My son and I both love the Eagle-Eye Ernie books by Susan Pearson. (Ernie is short for Ernestine.)

I was going to suggest the Ramona books as well!

Beverly Cleary has also written the Henry and Ribsy series, and the Ralph the Mouse series, which we have enjoyed, but Ramona is probably the most Junie-ish. Although I enjoy Ramona, while the Junie books don't do much for me.

What about the original Winnie-the-Pooh books? They're quite funny, and they have fun with language in a Junie-ish, but more British-y, way.

The My Father's Dragon series is always fun.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Junie B is a "read it in your head" book in our house.

In addition to those mentioned, Ivy and Bean books by Annie Barrows.

She might like the Judy Moody books, by Megan McDonald.

This is what I was going to say the second I read the thread title.

Also, the Ivy & Bean series by Annie Barrows and Sophie Blackall.

Katie Kazoo by
Nancy E. Krulik might also fight the bill.
