Are you happy with your birth experience? No. Everything I didn't want to happen happened. And I'm so angry at myself for not being able to birth my daughter naturally. I'm angry that I don't know what I could have done differently. And I'm angry that now I'm afraid of childbirth and I don't think I could ever do this again.

I had/have a lot of similar feelings about my labor (I also had vacuum in the end). Not sure what else to say, but I wanted to send you some hugs!

Birthday?10/16/2008
Time? 10:30pm
Weight? 7 lbs 6oz
Length? Don't know
Apgars? 9/10
Vaginal or C-section? Vaginal
Medicated or unmedicated? Unmedicated
Where you GBS +? Didn't get tested
Did you have an IV? Not until after the DS was born. Had to have one due to possible hospital transfer due to retained placenta (my midwife got it out though)
How long was labour? 4 1/2 hours
How long did you push? 20 minutes
Hospital, birthcenter or home? Home
How long did you stay?
Did you have a midwife, GP or OB? Midwife
Did you have a Doula? No
Who all was at your birth? DH and my 2 midwives. DS #1, my sister and my niece came in afterwards
Did you have an episiotomy or tear? 2nd degree along scar from DS #1
How many stitches? No clue
Did you need a vaccuum or forceps? No
Was baby late or early? Early
By how many days? 5 days
Were you induced or did you go into labour naturally? Spontaneously, although I do think my chiropractic adjustment 3 days earlier helped the situation.
Did your water break on it's own? No, my midwives arrived at the house when I was 8 cm dilated and suggested breaking my water, I declined. And then when I reached 10 cm they suggested it again and told me that I would give birth sooner if my membranes were punctured. I gave in... What a dirty trick on their part :
Was it the birth you planned? Not really. I wanted zero intervention (water was broken) I had a retained placenta and required an IV for that and I tore again. I had the perfect ecstatic birth with DS #1 along with the high of my life on oxytocin and beta endorphins in between contractions, I barely made a sound, and I remember falling in love with the intoxicating smell of birth. With DS #2 although the birth was faster than with DS #1, it was far more intense with active labour, the pushing was just as intense as dilation and I felt like a cow in labour while I was doing it, and no intoxicating smell of birth.... just poo (TMI?????)
Are you happy with your birth experience? Compared to my first birth, not so much

Vaginal or C-section? Vaginal
Medicated or unmedicated? Unmedicated
Where you GBS +? Didn't test
Did you have an IV? No - even with my gestational diabetes - we (in theory) monitored throughout

How long did you push? 1.5 hours
Hospital, birthcenter or home? Hospital
How long did you stay? Just under 2 days
Did you have a midwife, GP or OB? OB who I loved!! I wish I could bring him back to Canada with us!
Did you have a Doula? No - but DH was fabulous
Who all was at your birth? DH, OB, 2 (useless) nurses & the pediatrician
Did you have an episiotomy or tear? 3rd degree tear
How many stitches? I asked - he didn't count - but it took over an hour - so a LOT

Was baby late or early? early
By how many days? 7 days
Were you induced or did you go into labour naturally? Induced with cervical gel
Did your water break on it's own? On it's own
Was it the birth you planned? I had really wanted to avoid induction but as his umbilical cord was not performing optimally we decided it was the right choice. The induction worked very quickly & was easier than I would have guessed. Otherwise everything I discussed with the OB ahead of time happened (ie. no iv, no episiotomy, pushing in position I preferred). It was MUCH more painful than I ever imagined.
Are you happy with your birth experience? Yes. I have lots of questions about why I stopped progressing & ended up needing the forceps, but I don't regret making the decision - although my vagina & perineum may feel differently!
