The AWESOME birth story of Tristan Daniel

Well, I have some time right now because I'm still here at the birth center- dh is holding the babe and I'm just eating breakfast. Yum- oatmeal, eggs and pumpkin bread. They spoil me here.

BIRTH STORY---

Water broke at home at 9:00 AM when I was just at home with my toddler. This is how my labor started with ds1, which I think is kind of funny. My body obviously likes getting things started this way! Personally, I think it's rather convenient, lol. Lets me know it's for sure soon.

Contractions had not started yet, but I had my friend nearby pick me and my son up to go to her house just in case labor started and she needed to take me to the birth center. My husband works an hour away and I didn't want to tell him to come down yet since contractions weren't here. (He just started this new job- so I was trying to be considerate )

DH told his co-workers and boss that my water had broke but that he'd stay there until I called with contractions and they laughed at him and told him to go home "Um, we appreciate your dedication but you need to go be with your wife!" Nice of them.

We ended up going to the birth center without contractions when dh got here becuase he was insistent that they listen to the baby's heartbeat. I knew the baby was fine but DH just wanted to make sure.

Well, when we got there, they checked the baby every couple hours. I was getting frustrated at DH. "He's FINE! Can we go home until contractions start?" He said no and that he wanted to spend the night there. I was definitely not relaxed because I just wanted to be home. Finally, I convinced him that labor was not neccessarily eminent tonight just because my water was broke- that it can take up to 3 days for some women.

Just before we left though, I had the midwife check me. I was already at 4 and a half cm.

WHAT? Weird. I was having some dull period contractions but I didn't need to breathe through them or anything. 4 and a half cm??

The midwife said I could go home if I wanted to but she cautioned me that it would definitely be tonight.

"Ok" I said and we left. Home was 25 minutes away.

Well, as Murphey's Law would have it, the moment we pulled into our driveway, bam. Contractions were strong- 5 minutes apart. Then 3 minutes apart.

We ended up going back after just 40 minutes when I had to go on all all fours and moan, not letting dh even talk to me.

"WE'RE GOING BACK!" he said.

On the way there, I MASTERED my breathing. I found that the more I moaned, the worse I felt. The quieter I was, the more in control I felt. And in between contractions, I felt SO GOOD. Definitely felt those endorphines.

I told my husband, "I'm going to do this, right!?" and he held my hand gently and said, "Of course you will! You were made for this"

"When we got there I wanted in that tub immediately. It needed to fill up. While it was filling up, I labored while squatting over the bed. It felt so natural to squat this whole labor.

When the tub filled up, I got in promptly. I wanted to labor in there for a few hours before it came time to push, then I planned I was going to push him out by the bed squatting later on.

Uh- didn't happen. Once I got in that tub, no one no how was going to tell me to get out.

After that- everything was fast. I still can't believe how fast it was. Contractions quickly went to 30 seconds apart and I just breathed and bit the wet washcloth as hard as I could. At that point, I didn't want ANYONE touching me or talking to me. It was kindof bad- I snapped at everyone including my husband "Do NOT touch me. Do NOT tell me what to do. Do NOT talk!"

I really don't know why I did this. Maybe next time I should just have a UC birth, lol. I found people bugging me more than anything.

Just have to say- the single most painful part of the whole labor and the only part I can say that I "hated" was that part where I could feel the baby's head pushing through the cervix, dialating me fully.

"Holy sh*t! What the $^%& is the baby doing to me?!?!" along with more cussing No offense baby, but that was killer.

Thinking I had a few hours in that tub, I just did a hoola hooping motion dancing to my music between and during contractions as I breathed. Suddenly, I had to poop. "Sorry, I need a poop break" I said. "You'll have a huge mess to clean up". Well, it wasn't poop. It was my baby descending down.

My husband didn't think I was close because of how well I was handling it- breathing a bunch, doing my thing, not freaking out, not being scared.

He asked the midwife, "She still has hours to go doesn't she? Is she in transitino yet?"

"No hun she's about to push that baby out" He was floored. I was too. I couldn't believe how quick my body was going.

"WHAT??? THERE'S A BABY IN MY VAGINA! THERE'S A BABY IN MY VAGINA!" I kept yelling. "It's not time for pushing. I am supposed to have a long labor!" I said after a contraction.

Listenting to my body, I didn't need to push between contractions. I just waited until I got one and it did it on it's own. Wow! He was out in just 3 pushes. And let me just say- pushing feels GREAT. Almost orgasmic

Did anyone else feel orgasmic-like pushing? I can't really use another word to describe it- it felt amazing, yet hurt like hell at the same time.

Suddenly I felt a HEAD strething me open- "My clitoris!!!" I yelled, with some cuss words in there.

The midwife said, "Feel your baby!" I didn't believe her. But sure enough, his whole head was out of my body!!

Then with one more push, he was in my arms. I went bollistic. "Tristan! Tristan! It's you! You're finally here!!! I love you!"

The midwives and my husband were all crying. My beautiful birth music was in the background. It was perfect.

From start to finish of active labor contractions was under 3 hours! I am floored. I knew things might go faster being the second baby but man oh man- that felt quick.

Well, there it is Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Wow Caitrin!!! It truly is an AWESOME birth story. You sound hilarious in your writing. I'd have a hard time keeping a straight face... What birth center were you at? I'm so, so glad you had such a great experience. I was like you and didn't want to be touched, talked to, or messed with while I was contracting. I snapped at dh more than once, but he took it like a man

LOL!!! I did that, too! Different words of course. To the baby - " I don't know what you're doing, but you better be knocking on the exit!" And then when baby descended - "Ohhh! That's a baby!"

Congratulations! I'm so glad you have your baby and that his birth went so well. Thanks for sharing your story.
