What are the chances of going into labor...

while you have a cold? I have my second cold in 2 weeks (I NEVER get sick). I'm barely getting any sleep, so I'm sure my immunity is down. I've been having prodromol labor for weeks now, and I'm definitely in the early stages of actual labor. I'm 4 cm, waters are bulging, contractions getting stronger. Don't you think your body would kinda stall labor if you're sick, though? I'm a big believer that my body is in tune with my needs, so I'm hoping that if I AM sick, things will slow down.

Meanwhile, what can I do besides push vit. c and echinacea?

Actually, I think it's pretty common. I had a cold when my last baby was born, and I've known several people who've given birth with a cold.

I don't know the answer, but also have a cold. I am fairly miserable. I feel like my body is working overtime and I sleep a lot.
I look forward to other responses.

Yep, i'm also interested in hearing more. I have my first cold in years, and it is miserable. It should be completely illegal to have a cold and a toddler at the same time, much less a preggo belly! I have been pushing vitamin C and probiotics and handwashing my whole pregnancy, so i'm completely floored that my immune system has let me down. But if it meant going into labor, I think i'd be okay with it.

Better than having the vomits, anyway.

FOR REAL! I did that a month ago. ICK!

I am amazed at how long it takes the pregnant body to recover though.

I would wager if the baby is ready and momma has a major cold there is a good chance the body will "eject the passenger" if you will. Less stress on mom, less stress on baby. It seems like from a bodily perspective it is easier to support a full term infant that is born versus one still in the womb. That's just my random theory.

I've been vomiting for 7 months! Stinking hyperemesis. So I have that AND a cold! And now the runs...tummy's obviously trying to empty itself.

my experience working with mamas has been that if they have a bad cold and are in their due time, labor usually waits till the cold is in it's later stages. I have not seen a really sick mama go into labor, but a mildly sick mama yes. We are battling the cold/yuckies here too, I have been spared the severity that my twin 8 yo.s have had, but no fun at all.

I had a cold last week and still have the remnants of a stuffy nose. The best thing, I've found, is setting up a cool mist humidifier. I'm still using it b/c it keeps my nose cleared at night and lets me sleep with my mouth closed (so I don't wake up with a dry mouth). Other than Vit C, echinacea, and keeping the room "misty" there isn't much you can do but rest.

Chicken noodle soup? Veggie soup? That helps, too.

In Russia, they boil potatoes and then take the pot off the stove, place it on the table, and stick their faces over the steam and breathe it in. They also cover their heads with a towel to keep all the steam in. It's gross b/c all the snot runs into the water, but the steam and potato starch is supposed to be helpful. (I had someone make me do this in Russia b/c of a cold, and then he served me the potatoes for lunch! Waste not, want not.)

A lot of us have colds. My boys and I have a cold. Mine is not a bad cold just enough to make me have a hard time breathing.

I would like for baby to wait until the colds are gone.

My midwife told me to also take zinc.
