Remember to tell them when they do good

(forgive the grammar)

I've been using online contact forms to thank restaurants where I've breastfed in comfort.

Since the waitstaff has to come to your table, they can't just look away if they're bothered. So continuing to provide professional service without any sign of discomfort means they're either totally okay with NIP ( or are just that professional (not quite as good, but still )

You're right, it's very important to acknowledge the good things too! I work at a retail baby shop and we have chairs and couches placed sporadically around the store for nursing moms, and we received a letter from a new mom saying how she came in and nursed and not only did anyone look down on her or tell her something negative, but that people actually smiled at her and ensured her comfort. She was so happy and it turns out that was her first time ever trying to NIP and made her decide to continue!: It made us all feel really good, and I know then we had an employee that later left to be manager at another store, and implemented the same views and rules there!

Whenever I see a business with a breastfeeding logo in the window, I always ask to speak to a manager just to let them know that we frequent their bookstore/coffeeshop/retail store/etc. because they are welcoming to families. My Dh and I made sure to do this before getting pregnant as well. (Although in hindsight the comment might have been a little odd coming from my childless Dh that he appreciates them accomodating nursing women...)

I don't think I have ever seen the symbol anywhere. Are there any major chains that proudly display it and say they are breast feeding friendly?

I've never seen the sticker in a major chair. However, if I read about a large business that is probreastfeeding, I will mention it if I am in the store. An example would be the new training done for employees of Pottery Barn. I make sure that if I go into Pottery Barn that I thank them for being so bf-friendly, expecially because I live in one of the two states without any bf laws.

Good point! I've had several positive experiences lately, and you've inspired me to let the restaurants know what a great job their staff is doing!

After reading your post, I just called the customer service number for my local Chili's restaurant and left them a compliment. Thanks for this reminder! It is important to acknowledge progress and the acceptance of breastfeeding.
