Amelie was born at 12:13 pm on Nov 4th via emergency c/s following 20 hours of labor. She was 7lbs 9oz, not very big for a baby that was 18 days late. We came home yesterday and we're completely in love. She's doing great and nursing like a pro.
Thanks for all the labor vibes, they worked just in time. Here is my birth story.
I was planning a VBAC and Monday I went in for a profile (I was 42w + 3d) and failed so they sent me for a NST which didn't look good either so my OB came to see me and said she wanted to do a c/s that night. I agreed because I felt it was best for the baby. I went home to get my bag and went back to the hospital. They got me settled into a room until it was time for my c/s but then around 4pm, I started having contractions every 2-5 min. My OB came to see me and she was just as excited as me and said she was canceling the c/s. Contractions were regular but not painful. Then around 10:30pm, my water broke and they got really painful (baby was posterior) and closer together, about 1-2 min apart. At 3:30am, I was so tired, I was falling asleep between contractions and I felt like throwing up at the peak of each one. I thought I must be getting closer so the nurse checked me and I was only dilated 2cm. I agreed to an epidural, something I was completely against but I just couldn't go on. An hour later, I was at 3cm. I slept for a few hours and my OB came to see me around 7:30am and was at 9cm. Then I threw up and minutes later, I was fully dilated. My OB said to wait until I felt the urge to push before I started pushing. Around 10am, I got a temperature and baby started showing signs of distress so they wanted to get the baby out so they asked me to start pushing. 2 hours later, baby still hadn't descended and they saw thick meconium coming out. My OB tried forceps but she could only get one in so they rushed me in for a c/s. Amelie had a temperature when she was born so they took her to intensive care. They let me nurse her before they took her and she latched on right away. I got to hold her for about an hour. She spent 3 days in NICU and they gave her antibiotics as precaution, they thought she might have an infection because of her temperature. Turns out she was fine. I nursed her the whole time she was in there. I didn't get much sleep because she was nursing every 2-3 hours but I'm catching up since I came home. Even though I didn't get my VBAC, at least I know I tried.
