We are going to Adopt!!!

DH and I have been trying for about 2 and a half years to get pregnant, we've tried acupuncture for about 4 months and still nothing. I have always felt in my heart that I would not be able to carry a baby and while it is hard to accept I feel adoption is the way we are meant to build our family.

Praise God, my husband is on board with this idea and is not pushing for us to do further testing and medications.

We are in the process of filling out our application for a domestic adoption and are hoping to turn it in on the 15th when he is paid. We have already started our classes and are hoping to have a completed home study by the end of February!

I am so excited for a number of reasons. For one, I really believe that this is the path that I've been lead walk my whole life. The moment we looked at eachother and knew adoption was it for us this wave of peace swept over me and hasn't left since. Trying to concieve was such a roller coster of lows and lower lows and I'm so glad to get off that ride. I'm just renewed with hope and excitement and although I know that this is going to be an emotionally filled journey I feel this is just where I'm supposed to be.

I have gained so much inspiration from you all and courage to take these first steps in this journey from this board and wanted to thank you all!

I look forward to sharing this journey with you all as we move forward in creating our family.::

Are their any other people out their in the adoption process who want to join??? come on in!!!

We're working our way there too, still in early planning stages, we don't have a homestudy done yet or anything, so a bit behind you, ...

Congrats on your decision, I'm glad you've been able to alleviate some stress with it! Looking forward to hearing how your journey goes.

Thanks everyone for your replies and warm welcome.

asmomtoone~ we haven't really started anything other than filling out our adoption application for our agency and started going to the classes that are required by our state. Are you thinking domestic or international?

The application process has been a bit of a surprise as well. We had the worst time deciding who our child would go to in case we should both die. I realize all parents should have this figured out but, to have to that choice made soooo far in advance feels strange. I just pray that that never comes to be! Otherwise the application isn't too terrible, I'm really looking forward to the 15th when we get to be official and turn it in!

In our class their were 3 other couples and we all introduced our selves in the begining. I really hope that this group offers as a sounding board and a support system and not some sort of competition atmosphere. Everyone was rather quiet and didn't really interact much. I got really good vibes from 2 of the couples their but the other one was a little weird. I don't want to make any judgements yet though, it just wouldn't be fair. Plus, I hate it when I'm judged on a first impression when I'm really nervous and out of my element. So I'm going to go in with a really positive attitude for our next meeting on the 20th. Anyone else have positive experiences in these group classes or suggestions?

you could be me!

Hi Olives,

My story is almost identical to yours. We are also at the same point in the adoption journey. I'm so happy and excited. Welcome. Let's keep in touch!

Warmest regards,
Nichole

I am in awe of parents who adopt, and send :

Welcome, and good luck!

We are currently working on our second adoption. Our homestudy should be done in a week or so, then we can file our immigration paperwork while we finish up bits and pieces of our dossier, so we can send it off to China as soon as possible.

nichole77~ Yippee! I have an adoptiong buddy, how exciting. Good luck to you guys, feel free to keep in touch here, I kinda ment for this thread to be open to all people looking to adopt... When are you turning your application in?

KavaKaya~ Thanks so much for the support!

Monie~ That is really exciting too! How long do you expect to wait to be matched? Our agency told us that China was projecting longer wait times these days... but then again, our agency doesn't do international placements just the homestudies for them so I doubt they have most current information. Is that where you adopted from the first time around?

We were having the worst time with deciding who will parent our child should we both pass. First we thought of some good firends of ours. When we asked them a few weeks ago if they would be willing, we were kind of turned off by their responce. Even though they said yes, it was just really negative in tone and they weren't too supportive over all of us adopting and were telling us we were too young and that we should just wait or go the medical route since we hadn't done so yet. It was so weird to have them asking such personal questions and being so invasive... after all we weren't asking them what they thought about us adopting we were asking them if they would parent our child if we passed. It seemed like they were just trying to talk us out of it and that just sort of bugged me.

We were going to stick with them even after all that but then DH spoke with his Mom and she brought up some really good points about going with DH's sister. Dh and I had a few concerns about them and they were our second choice but now we think we are going to go ahead and ask her and her husband if they would agree to parent and put them down instead of our friends. DH is going to ask tomorrow so hopefully we will be set to turn everything in ASAP!

I just really want to get everything turned in because our agency only works with 15 couples at a time and I don't want our space to be filled and be left hanging until a spot opens up.

application

Hi Olives,

We are looking to turn in our application in about two weeks. This weekend we have big ambitious plans to complete the birthmother letter. I think we can do it! We also have to fill out several pages of questions for our social worker. Many of the questions are somewhat redundant to the adoption application so I think it will go pretty fast.

I'm excited. I want to start getting ready for the baby. At least start making diapers and diaper wipes, but I feel like I should wait until we get our homestudy approved. What state are you in? We're in Texas.

Hey Nichole,

We are in the Midwest, . We haven't even started our birth mother letter yet or our family scrapbook. I think each agency has their own timeline when it comes to that stuff, although I've been putting together a mental check list of the photos I want to include in or book and photos that I want to take for the book.

I just need to get this application out the door and in their hands and I"ll feel soooo much better about things. Whewww!

I've been wanting to get started collecting things for the baby too but I just can't let myself go their yet for some reason. I've collected a few books over the years and that's about it. But, we need to do some remodeling and stuff to the house and then I'll have no problem getting started. Gosh it is terribly hard to have such restraint at times!?! Do you have any other baby stuff stored up yet?

This is just soooo exciting!

:)

Congratulations!

It is wonderful that you are adopting. I will check back on this thread often, to hear some more good news. Do you know how long it (approx.) takes?

There are some great blogs out there and if you need more links, let me know, I'll copy my bookmarks.

It is my dream to adopt at least one child (orphan), and I am just checking rules and regulations.

I'm sending some good:

Hi Olives!
We adopted from China last time around, also.

We are expecting to be matched around the time we send our dossier to China, but that is only because we are wanting to adopt a boy with special needs. The wait times for the non special needs adoptions are very, very long. We sent our dossier to China in May 2006 for our last adoption - the friends I made who sent their dossiers at the same time are still waiting in line, 2.5 years later, and expect at least another year wait! I feel so sad for them.

I hope the process goes quickly for you!

I really can't believe I'm here updating this but, I very shockingly am pregnant so our adoption plans are put on hold. Our agency does not allow you to adopt while pg.

I'm in complete shock but also so very happy!:

Wow Olives. Congrats!
Everyone seems to have a friend of a friend who this has happened to. That feeling of peace you mentioned in your first post is powerful stuff.
....I'd say that the acupuncture is powerful stuff. I got pregnant after about 4 months of it, too.
